Was kinda cocky getting into offshore gambling / sportsbetting circa 2001? Or so, maybe a year or two prior

Will finish this later, akin to an opener in MLB

First question......When did you start at the USPS? I did in 1986 and retired in 2013 (medical discharge) after developing osteoarthritis in both knees.....As far as off shore I started in 1999 with the Greek.....Have not played off shore since 2013....Too much BS with ********* limits, having to jump through hoops to get a fast payout and some books leaving the US market

What craft are you in? It can not be letter carrier as it is far from a cake job especially these days with all management requires

Feel free to PM me as I have 26 years of carrier experience and stories to share with you if interested.

Joe Batters feel free to chime in....

OK,

Have to ask. How is putting letters in a mailbox tough?

Mail is something that should just be handled electronically anyway. Majority of people pay bills online as it is

I think Doug lives in a white city and all that. So you'll have civilized people on your route.

Can you imagine being a mailman in a non-civilized Democratic city with such passionate diversity? You would probably get jumped, lol... not mention if you get attacked by a dog in a white city... okay.... it is what it is. But if you get attacked by a U.S. minority's dog?

All they've known all their life is probably suffering and pain... ha ha.

So they'd probably try to take an extra bite out of you.

Yeah. They probably have a tough time filling up the walking routes in the ghetto's

You know some mailmen get a text from their buddy to go do something about 1 PM and just take the mail to a big dumpster and throw it in there and go about their day. Haha

Can't do that, though. Then they'll get fired.

But you remember that famous actor who used to be a mailman? I think he said he would do the first part of his route extra fast.... and then take a nap in his mailman jeep.

Reminds me of the time that I woke up the mailman as he was sleeping in his mailman jeep and he was literally pissed off by the fact I woke him up. I was like, "Bro, you're fucking working, parked outside my house and I need my mail."

The job in itself is basic......When I started in 1986 there were no scanners, no tracking of every step you took, you did not have machines line up your mal for you ...You lined up your own mail so you know who was in the house and who was not....Machines have no clue regardless of how much info they have in the data base....A ltter carrier today barely has time to use the rest room he or she is under so much scrutiny.....Back when I began you could bust through your route and have a few hours left to do errands, find a hiding place or just go home until punch out time if you were local...I have been out of the game since 2013 but what I see and hear on the street and at the union meetings the PO has a Walmart mentality towards the help....

The PO is a very toxic work environment...….Managers with zero craft experience telling 20 year vets how to do their job because a piece of paper says so.....

Those are the last to go...walkers through the projects.....That's why CCA's turnover is so high......With a lot of transient residents keeping the deliverable mail from the forwards and undeliverables is a task for the most knowledgeable veteran and management expects newbies with a months experience (or less) to perform like a vet....For what they gat paid and what is expected of them it is little wonder that CCA turnover is so high

Very true. And this applies to almost all jobs today. With technology they can maximize every ounce of effort..... and they will try to pull that out of an employee. Many years ago you could do what you mentioned in a lot of jobs... now jobs from all spectrums they have going at a 90% maximum production rate.... and even though you only do 40-50 hours/week.... it can wear you out.

Technology has to burn out the mailman.

GPS trackers will tell their employer, location, speeds, stops made.

Would not be fun.

I believe the starting rate is about 18/ hour BUT you do earn a small amount of sick and possibly a small amount of vacation (not sure about vacation time)...However all time put in as a CCA is not counter towards your total time of service once you leave the PO...Only once you get converted to a career position do you earn credit for time worked.....This could take a while (years)…...If you are young, fit and can run like the wind I would say give it a try.....If you have a high tolerance for being bullied , worked to you drop, disrespected and do not have a life it is the job of a lifetime

It harder than you probably think. Yeah you don't have to be a rocket scientist, but there's plenty of regs you have to know, and there's very low tolerance for mistakes. Plus you have to be able to hustle, similar to warehouse type work. I remember when I was doing warehouse type work during the great recession and people that had to take that kind of work cause of layoffs from their college jobs, the same that say that kind of work must be easy, could not hack it. They could not hustle for shit.

Thanks for the invite TheMailman...lol...I've been doing it since '85..started out in the ghetto south of Ohio State. I was in my late 20s, actually had a blast once I got to know everybody. They treated me very well. As long as you did your route in 8 hours, nobody cared what you did when you went out there. It seems like the job was more respected back then and definitely a lot more fun. But yeah, now you have to carry a scanner with you that has a gps and if you are at a spot longer than 10 minutes, management gets alerted. And if you take like 32 minutes instead of 30 for lunch, they can call you into the office. Definitely a fukked up environment. It used to be a hard job to get, but just a couple of years ago they were hiring anyone with a pulse. They couldn't keep people. A lot of it had to do with Amazon as new hires usually had to work weeks in a row without a day off since Amazon demanded that their packages get delivered on Sunday. Made a lot of $$ delivering Amazon, but it was depressing af. Every route had a handful of people who would get like 3-4 packages every day for years. Definitely some kind of addiction going on. It's a little better now since Amazon has its own drivers. To give another example of how times changed; I live in central Ohio. The winters are actually mild. But if it got cold, you did your route and that was that. Then it got to the point where if got cold, a lot of new people would say fuk this and refuse to work. Then after a few days, the postal service would call them up and say 'ok, it warmed up, can you please come back to work?' Seriously lol. I feel like technology totally fucked up this profession. It's a shame, but I agree, it seems like all jobs are like that now. That all being said, if you like to be outside, you might like this job as there aren't too many jobs like that. But yeah, unfortunately I think this profession lost a lot of respect over the years..

:):)harder than we think? why is that? low tolerance for mistakes? you kidding right? I will let you know the first time we have a full week go by without us getting someone else's mail or someone getting our mail. It's a pathetic joke.

Hi Joe Batters...Thanks for the reply.....Like you I started in the mid 80s....You must be near retirement...I left in 2013 on a medical....As you know back when you racked all your mail and brought back a few miss sorts at the end of the day...Then came DPS and I would need a flat bucket for all the bad DPS....But before scanners a mailman could be part of the community, getting to know their customers...You could take the time to chat with your customers. Maybe have a coffee with them time permitting.....As long as the phone did not ring in the office management left you alone....I had a monster route so every day was a 10 hour day...I was young, fast and lived a block from my route so I could "run" it and be done 2 hours early ….watched a lot of General Hospital on the clock....those days are gone...From what I hear and see every day is like being 99'd with how every second is accountable......so glad I got out and the best part...they still pay me !!!!
