I follow this team closely, through 51 games they are ahead of last year's 100 win team that was 33-18 after 51 games !

They are the only team that I'm a fan of.

They have been decimated with injuries to key players this season , yet are in first place by three games nearly a third into the season

Cashman is doing something right . It's not all him , but passing on overpriced guys like Machado and Harper, instead signing a mid-priced guy like DJ Lemaywho, who has been excellent, snatching up bargain guys like Luke Voit, Maybin, Estrada, etc. Urshela easily replacing Andujar. Andujar a fine hitter but can't play a position, don't need a DH, trade his ass next year !
Missing big guys like Judge, Gregorious, Stanton, Severino, etc.

No way they should be 34-17 !

I don't recall a single game this season where they blew a large lead like 3 + runs and lost the game, they've come back and won several such games , however !

It might just be their year, should be getting some of the big bats back pretty soon, good chance of signing Dallas Kikel

you are correct, it makes no sense ho well they are doing. This same record would not even make sense if they had ZERO injuries!

Pretty wild. Early on, they seem like the team to beat. And they're ONLY MISSING THEIR 2 BEST PLAYERS!!! :):)

Simple

rest of AL sucks

Boston and Tampa in the same division don't suck, Toronto and Baltimore suck, but it can go anyway with Ny, Boston, and Tampa
Houston certainly doesn't suck, I don't know much about the Twins, but they are winning

Yankees just way over achieving so far !

Sanchez played hurt last year, now perhaps the best hitting catcher in the game, Luke Voit an all-star out of nothing, Gaybar Torres hitting like an all-star, Urshela solid both ways, Gardener stepping it up for his final ? Season, that redhead kid in the outfield doing great

Guys like Lemaywho, Urshela being productive, even total replacement players like Maybin and Estrada contributing

Big bats like Judge,Didi, Stanton on the way back, German the new pitching ace, likely will sign Keuchel in a couple of weeks.

It's all looking really good now, so therefore they are certain to go on a 5-15 type of skid, they are nowhere near as good as their record would indicate

Well they're beating up on weak sisters of the league like the Oreos and Royals, well they should win most of those games, something they have been deficient in accomplishing in recent years, beating the Oreos counts the same as beating the Astros or Red Sox, bad game today from their pseudo-ace, but no pitcher is on everyday !

Very weak schedule this far, these early easy wins are needed, much tougher games coming up.

Should be a close fight with the 3 real teams in the division with the winner probably around 96 wins and the second place team checking in at around 94 and a WC spot, still the AL East is a tough division, three teams that could realistically win the WS

Steinbrenner was the Devil all along? It really is amazing to think if everyone gets healthy what this team could accomplish.

On this weekend...Remember, Honor, Salute!

Hard to say who their two best players are, anymore !

You probably mean Judge and Stanton

You could make a case for :

Luke Voit
Gaybar Torres
Gary Sanchez

We desperately need starting pitching help !

If they get a solid starting pitcher for some prospects at the trade deadline (Bumgarner, Scherzer?), and stay healthy, they will be hard to stop, are World Series bound.
Voit's career OPS over basically two half seasons combined, is .900, at >500+ at bats he has 36 HR's, so if you look at a full season, that is 40 HRs a season. Small sample size of course.
He is a solid fielder, too, was a college FB running back then after an injury focused on baseball, a catcher, now is at 1B.

This year has Yankees/Dodgers WS written all over it.....Yanks WILL get that stud starter before deadline you know they will. RSox just don't have that magic this year. Without Sale being Sale they're chances drop big time. Astros pitching scares me besides Verlander, but with both them and Yanks at full strength that'll be a helluva series

The key for the Yanks will be Severino. If he comes back healthy and pitching to his capability after the AS break, it will be huge. He along with Tanaka (1.50 post season ERA), and probably Paxton give them a decent shot in post-season play.

They probably will go out and get another starter, but I'm not sure there will be one available that would be an upgrade over the 3 I mentioned. They'll probably do it for insurance more than anything. CC is old and broken down, Tanaka's elbow has been hanging by a thread for years, and who knows what other issues may strike.

A healthy Severino, Tanaka and Paxton not a bad 1-3 punch in a series....Tanaka always steps up in post season healthy or not. A healthy Yankee lineup with all their bombers is the best in baseball hands down

Tanaka is the fucking man. Over his time in NY, he's been screwed by poor run support and the pen blowing a ton of games he should have gotten wins. That POS Holder has singlehandedly cost him at least 3 wins this year. He's been so much better than his W/L record would suggest.
