I went to Deadwood years before the series to checkout the town and casinos when I was vacationing in that part of the country. You can take in Mt Rushmore and Little Big Horn when your out that way. You can easily imagine how the town was when the series took place during the gold rush era. Home of the famous dead man's hand where Wild Bill Hickok was killed. The original saloon was burned down in a fire but your still standing where the original saloon stood. Definitely worth a trip out there to take in all three places.

Sturgis is 20 miles away too.
