And so begins the yearly dialogue about protective netting. Its tricky because unlike the other sports everyone has played baseball, and to some degree is lulled into a false sense of security.

Know this. 90 mph = 132 feet per second. The girls seats were probably less than 132 feet from home plate. So dad or whomever was there to protect her, has less than 1 second to react and throw part of his body in the way.

Not possible. No one can respond, meaningfully in that length of time. So until mlb acts, don't put your kids in jeopardy. Sit behind the netting or farther away from home.

My apologies for digressing from our typical betting discussion format........but this is just too important. 90 mph is too abstract, but 132 fps makes it real enough to understand.

bol 2 all !!!

They said she is doing okay, better than last night. Most likely a full recovery I believe.

Almora was shaking up bad.

Really cannot believe this does not happen much more often.

Best wishes to the Girl and her Family. And Almora; not his fault.

I played 3B as a kid and on the balls of your feet with total concentration, some balls went by, before you could completely respond.

Compare that to a family, eating and talking and half paying attention. They just have no chance.

Mosi you are dead right, its amazing it doesn't happen more often.

I live in S Cal and last season an older woman was hit by a foul at dodger stadium and she died. I believe tickets have a bit of legalese, to the effect of you enter at your own risk. Still you wonder if somewhere, someone will file a successful suit. Something like an arguement in the aisle not addressed by ushers caused a distraction, which created an element of liability for the team.

Regardless........folks keep your kids safe.

Doesn't happen more because the stadiums are huge and 70% empty
