Soroka was bidding to become the first pitcher of the live-ball era to open a season by allowing one earned run or less over nine consecutive starts. The 21-year-old right-hander stands with Edinson Volquez (2008) and Mike Norris (1980) as the only pitchers of this era to do so over eight consecutive starts to begin a season.
Soroka is the the only pitcher since 1913 to allow one earned run or less in 11 of his first 13 career starts. He extended this distinction after becoming the first pitcher within this span to do so in eight of his first 10 career starts.

It's riveting if you're a bases bettor. The guy has never been higher than a -165 fav in 13 career starts. Pretty good odds for a guy who hasn't given up more than one earned run in any start this year. The Braves are 9-4 in his 13 career starts.

..

I remember Fernando, when he came upstarted winning every game, back about 1980 or so, just plain bet the piss out of him, cashed ticket after ticket, like minting money..

the other lock, Sandy Koufax against the NYM, they just could not hit him, brt -1.5 and -18, cashed those tickets, just could not hit that guy..!!

Soroka has been awesome. I was at his first start vs the Diamondbacks and had no clue who he was. He's been great for Atlanta. The bullpen....not so much

Both Soroka and degrom pitched lights out. I started work early just to watch this . To bad for Covid would have been even better in person. The pitch count on degrom was not high thought he had at least another inning and his pitch counts were going down later per inning. Soroka is a surgeon as well his pitch count was ridiculously low after 5. Great game to watch even Lugo pitched well and out of danger . Good stuff today
