Just crazy. Two of the best players in the league gone for the 2019 season. The Warriors are spending a huge chunk of the salary cap on their rehab. Durant will opt-in and so will Klay.

Will somebody else pay them for next year?

I suppose it's possible, if they sign a long term deal without opt out clauses

All of these seven game playoff series, playing mostly every other day, after a long regular season is terrible, it is all greed to get more revenue. How much money is enough for the owners and players?

Pro sports need to cut back on this bullshit, NHL, of course and MLB... (World Series played last week of October sometimes in 30 - 40 degree weather see: physics of baseball in cold weather).

On a side note, slaps were getting handed out.

http://dailysnark.com/raptors-gm-ma...ggD6VcLTRDecTwEv7BRig0SJAUA7E_Ra9h1F28fDlqiBI

Last night, the Toronto Raptors made history, winning their franchise’s first NBA Championship, defeating the Golden State Warriors, 114-110.
Much of the Raptors success this season was due to the moves made by team exec Masai Ujiri, who gambled it all in trading for Kawhi Leonard and firing Dwayne Casey — the NBA’s reigning coach of the year.
When the clock struck zeros, Ujiri tried to get to the floor to celebrate with his players but unfortunately was denied access by one sheriff deputy in Oracle Arena.
An altercation ensued, which ultimately led to Masai allegedly slapping the police officer in the face.

Here’s the footage:

According to the reports, Masai was stopped by the officer because he did not have proper credentials. The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office is currently calling the incident a misdemeanor battery of an officer. Both they and the Oakland Police Department are investigating the matter.
No arrests have been made but the case is expected to be handed over to the district attorney.

Not buying your argument one bit. All these games have been players for 50-100 years. They started playing that many games before there was big money involved and there were even less off days in the past.

If anything it's the opposite. The big TV money causes the NBA and other sports to want every game to be on TV all by itself with no overlap. Tis creates many more off days between games.

You could argue all the games the Warriors specifically played the last 5 year because of their runs, but that is the cost of success. Or it could be just the odds catching up with them, they had pretty good luck with playoff injuries in the past 5 years.

Bingo. The notion that these players are overworked is such a cliche at this point

Long 7 game playoffs back to back to back to back do not matter? Ask Durant and Thompson.
Others missed games and / or played hurt.
Same with NHL, several were playing dinged (eg. O'Reilly, cracked ribs middle of the NHL playoffs, played thru it and was back to 100% for the Bruins series).
I wish I had a dollar for every time I heard a coach or announcer say the playoffs are a "game of attrition" as they explain injury woes in the NHL and NBA.
Check the weights of players in the 80's and 90's, and if you see an "ESPN Classic" NBA game, with, say, the Magic Johnson Lakers vs the Larry Bird Celts, it is almost funny, they all look skinny as hell.
The difference is, these days, going against HGH supplemented weight lifting mutants is completely different, it takes its toll, it is very different. Hockey, too, the players are enormous now, weight training backfires when it changes your body and makes it more vulnerable to injury as you push it to the limit.
We are not seeing the best of the games as they should be, too many are dinged or knocked out of the game.

Thompson and Durant got hurt. Big deal. Other then Leonard having a little bit of a sore leg every other team was actually really healthy. Just because two players from the champs got hurt doesn't mean any more injury's then ever before were happening this year.

On the talk shows today they were talking about how Jordans first title came when Magic, Worthy and Scott?? were all hurt for the finals series. Shit happens. You can't blame it on the players being on HGH. The only two players to get hurt were Thompson and Durant. Not exactly the posterboys for weight lifting mutants. Durant is 6'11" and 123 lbs and skinnier then any of the guys you named.

Durant and Thompson have played at such a high level for so long, you kind of view them as invincible and expect them to win you games in the Championship Series.

I don't feel bad for Golden State at all but I do feel for these two players. I wish them the best during their long recoveries.

What?
Just Thompson and Durant? Big deal? Two of the best players in the NBA?
AND you are double wrong, because Looney, Iguodala, Cousins all were hurt / banged up / missed time, were not 100% at all, not in game condition to play their best. I guess you didn't notice them on the bench sometimes, cringing in pain.
And yes Durant is skinny but IMO his weight training makes him much stronger than the 80's players I mentioned and exposes him to injury and he still gets hammered all year by the weight lifting HGH mutants in the NBA that accumulate and contributed to or even caused his injuries. Thompson got hammered twice in the championship series, knocked out of the big games.
Hey I do not really follow the NBA anymore, sick of the LeBron type BS. From the wagering perspective I just picked up on Toronto being way undervalued and went with them the last two series game by game, especially when GS injuries were a factor.
Everybody with a brain knows the season is too long in the NBA and NHL, again, a "war of attrition".

Hey I am wagering and took advantage of GS being massively banged up, did in game when Klay went down, came back for FTs, Toronoto was +116.
But still.

  • NHL and NBA seasons & playoff series are way way too long, players are dinged badly and some are knocked out.
  • MLB if they play last week of Oct it is too damn cold sometimes, the physics of baseball change too much.
So pro teams in major sports are playing at less than full strength in the BIG games.

(Sigh)

The term is used by coaches when they are being worn down in the late playoffs, dings, injuries, tired legs, etc. Broadcasters, too.

It is a military strategy that describes one or both sides as trying to wear the other down, soldiers, equipment, everything, until they win.

When coaches use it they are technically incorrect but everybody with a brain, who isn't a douchebag, knows what they mean.

Lol and how exactly does a long season equate to one team trying to outlast and wear down another team?

I do agree that the Baseball season is too long. No northern team should be playing baseball in April and October. It's a hot weather game.
