a move they will regret. home run or nothing player. been above average this year but fades during second half of every season. never had 160 hits in a season or hit above .290. also lifetime doubles total pathetic. can't run or play in the field. major liability. who is he going to replace in the lineup which has jelled even without stanton and judge who are much better. also poor clubhouse guy if that matters.

They already are loaded with right handed power hitters with Stanton & Judge on the way back... makes no sense

Home run or nothing player leading the league in HR’s. Any team can use a bat like that, especially in the AL

Exactly ! You have a team that gets home run production from virtually every position even catcher and SS, where it is not expected.

A team full of RH hitters in a stadium built for LH hitters.

It's going to throw off the team chemistry. This guy should never play defensively, EVER ! The DH spot should be rotated, a guy like Sanchez should get it about 25% of the time, Stanton should get it frequently, Andujar if active, and others on occasion

Now your outfied has to be Stanton, Hicks, Judge, so you have Gardener and Clint Frazier left for one spot left for 4th outfielder, most likely Frazier gets screwed and sent back to Scranton, that is just criminal with the way he has been hitting ! Teams should think of what signing a guy like Encarnacion does overall. Teams carry 13 pitchers now, leaving 3 bench spots
Backup catcher
Utility infielder
4th outfielder

I see no value in a designated full time DH unless you can cut down on the number of pitchers you carry

You better hit like David Ortiz or better to be a DH. The thing that is valuable now is a player that can compently play 3+ positions and not suck as a hitter

sorry marjorie, this stiff has been hitting meaningless hr's for years now. very rarely when you need one does he come through. if you haven't noticed hr's are up dramatically. seems like everyone has at least 10 which negates the overall worth of them if everyone is hitting them. francona couldn't wait to get rid of him after suffering with his unproductive performance for two years.

Following the Yankees win over the White Sox on Sunday, the team announced that they were optioning Frazier to Triple-A to make room for the newly-acquired Encarnación. Frazier, who is hitting over .280 with a 122 wRC+, told reporters that he was "pretty surprised" by the news.

Frazier is going to get flipped for a sp. Gardner will shift to a bench role and spell all the outfiel spots for rest. Morales will be cut

Voit?
If they take ABs from Luke Voit they are making a mistake, young power hitter, need to keep the momentum for his development.

He must not be very intelligent to see he's not going to be a starting outfielder, the DH spot is taken, he's hitting great but a bad guy with the glove, of course Gardner gets the spot and he goes down, even if rosters were expanded to 30, he'd go down just to get regular playing time
He's a major league hitter, but blocked with this team. I don't think he has the right mental makeup to play in NY

He'd be better off in a smaller market where he'd play every day in the majors and perhaps get to become close to average with the leather.

His trade value is high now, it would be best for all parties to trade him for a pitcher

Good post. He was already at odds with the media over his defensive issues. Today, he didn't run out a comebacker to the pitcher that turned into a DP. His body language wasn't good at all today. You could tell he knew he was going down and was already pouting about it.

As you said, he has the tools as a hitter and he's a good enough athlete to turn into at least an average defender. His problems in the OF are fixable. He'll end up being a good player for somebody, probably just not the Yanks.

It will be interesting to see if the Mets turn into sellers over the next few weeks. They can always use more offense, but would they be willing to deal with the Yanks??

He will get flipped in a deal for bumgarner(if he waives his no trade), maybe stroman if they get really desperate for a sp in a a weak market. I wouldnt be suprised so see the indians become sellers. Id really like to see them make a huge move, like a max scherzer, hes old and the nats are in a rebuild.

I don't see him really taking at bats from Luke Voit, at least not by playing 1B, perhaps there might be a game where you'd give Luke half a day off and have DJL play 1B and Luke be the DH, but no major impact.

Here's a scenario that could easily happen and shows why having a DH only guy could really backfire. You only have the three man bench now, so if EE goes into a major slump, you bench him, back up catcher not useable, that leaves one guy to cover #3 ( 1B) through #9(RF) positions
