I spent the last 12 months planning a 10 day vacation to Punta Cana next month. With all the shit I've seen swirling in the news we ended up cancelling the trip. My girls started getting sketched from seeing all the news then my wife joined in. Personally, I think it's all randomness. Sheesh, thousands of people die travelling to Vegas annually from overdose or other shit. As far as the D.R. I thought we'd be fine.

Now I've scrambled the last week to find a different place and instead we'll be going to Maui. Really bummed. I hope the D.R. gets to the bottom of this because Punta Cana looked pretty awesome to visit.

It’s not that great.
Really windy. Beach is fine. Meh alcohol selections.

But I think Hawaii is completely overrated at its price point.
But good work pulling it together.

Bro, young healthy people are dropping dead in the DR from something. They aren't just having heart attacks.

I think it's a good idea to switch, at least until they figure out what happened

Maui is a different experience than a Caribbean Island or even the Rivera Maya. I prefer calm and warm waters, but people do love HI. At least it's a short flight for you

That's what I did 2 years ago, loved it. Some parts of Hawaii are for sure overrated but not that part.

Also I'm not one to usually worry about a couple reports (some people wont' go to Mexico, I love it there never had any issues) but even I wouldn't head to the DR right now.

I sure in the hell wouldn't go to a suspect destination right now.. so many other locations to choose from.. I use to go to Hawaii on a yearly basis.. Haven't been in a long time... probably even more crowded then ever before. prefer the Tulums, Playas , Cabos , and Mahuhuls last few years

Wholeheartedly agree Falls. My wife and kids have never been so we opted there. Obviously wasn't gonna take them to Oahu cause its damn near turned crappy there in the last 10 years. Traffic, over crowded, dirty, etc, etc.

I just got back from 9 days in Hawaii... I thought it was amazing.

Though, we got to spend time on the 4 major islands: Oahu, Maui, Kauai, Hawaii

Kauai was our favorite...

Thanks for the feedback fellas. What's crazy is an childhood friend of mine is in Punta Cana now. They arrived 4 days ago. We've been messaging each other and I've been following their trip on Facebook. They're living it up for Peetsakes! Tell's me they're all drinking everything they can get their hands on. (they're at an all inclusive). He did joke that he's not fucking around w/ the mini-bar. Other than that says it's a great vacation so far. I haven't show my wife FB posting cause it's just gonna screw with her head.

He warned me the other day not to cancel the trip. He's got a wild idea. He thinks it's a coordinated smear campaign fr Mexico and Puerto Rico to prevent U.S tourists from going to the D.R. Oh well. Like I said, I definitely wanna go there. Looks really nice there. We were in Cancun back in 2015. Loved it and wanted to go back. But w/ all the cartel shit in Mexico we opted for the D.R.

Goal will be to go next summer.

Ok. since Dec 2018 the count is at 11.

Of the 11.

3 were DUI
1 was riptide current drowning.

Yes of the remaining 8 deaths, they're unsolved ranging from cardiac arrest to tourists not waking up. What if it's sleep apnea? What if it's tourists living it up and OD'ing on drugs? And why are all these reports happening in the past 3 month which is the beginning of vacation season? Just saying.

You don't have a problem with reports of 8 unsolved deaths in the Dominican Republic? That doesn't scream something's wrong?

Hey Chuck sorry for your disrupted plans. I bet you could get some very similar vacation bang if you were to book in Puerto Rico next year. Absolutely same or better offerings and your dollars support American citizens if that happens to be a positive factor for you
