*BYU and Army are top candidates, if interested, to replace UConn in the AAC unless
the AAC stays at eleven teams. Army would seem to make the most sense because
of the location and rivalry with Navy. My guess is the ACC stays at eleven teams for
now.

*Since defeating Iowa State in October 2009, the Kansas Jayhawks are 12-94 playing
against FBS opponents and have lost three games to teams from the FCS.

IOWA is an interesting team. Some weeks they show that they can hang with the best
in the Big Ten, but some weeks they look like they don't even belong in the same league.
With a team with such inconsistencies, it is hard to see what this season will bring for
them. Iowa opens up the season with four games that they can win to put them in great
position to hold onto a top seed in the Big Ten, but with their inconsistent play being a
huge factor throughout all of last year, it is hard seeing this team make the necessary
adjustments to put them at the top of the Big Ten conference.

Trend: The visitor in the IOWA/PURDUE series is 9-0-1 against the spread. Iowa will play
host to Purdue this season.

On Saturday, September 14, Air Force will travel to Colorado for their first meeting
since 1974. These in-state teams, located just 84 miles apart, haven't played each
other in 45 years. Air Force cranked up its football program operations in 1957 and
played the Buffaloes 16-consecutive times from 1958-74 winning only 4 times. Now
they will get a chance to make it 5 victories come September. Colorado leads the
series 12-4 and has won 5 straight.

Florida State - Because of back-to-back subpar seasons and a less than desirable
home schedule, plus a coach fans don't have confidence in...the football program
is projecting an $8 million decrease in ticket sales this season. More than 40 per-
cent of season tickets remain unsold causing major concern for the school. Last
year, the Seminoles suffered their first losing season in 42 years and with a team
that has demonstrated a lack of discipline under Willie Taggart, there's cause for
plenty of sweating around the Tallahassee school.

*Taggart's last two teams (FSU 2018/Oregon 2017) have finished No. 129 and No. 126 in
penalties per game. Taggart doesn't even know how to spell discipline.

Purdue - The 13 wins over his first two seasons rank coach Jeff Brohm among
the best starts in school history. So when his alma mater of Louisville began to
show interest after firing Bobby Petrino, Purdue ponied up with a new 7 year,
$38 million contract that makes him among the highest paid coaches in the Big
Ten. Clearly, the school is investing in its future by keeping Brohm, and the 48
year old is returning the favor with a top 25 recruiting class in 2019.

*Jeff Brohm is 15-2 straight up and 14-3 against the spread from game 11 out.

Ohio State - Most Big Ten experts believe the Buckeyes are the most talented team
in the conference, and when it comes to college football, talent overcomes a lot of
problems. New coach Ryan Day has never run a program on his own, let alone a
program of this size and expectations. Transfer starting quarterback Justin Fields
has never been a starting quarterback at the college level. The Buckeyes will also
have to play Nebraska, Northwestern and Michigan on the road this season. There
are tough home games against Michigan State, Wisconsin and Penn State as well.
Because of an experienced defense (9 starters back) ten to eleven wins seem reach
able. Much will depend on how Fields and the offense come together.

*Ohio State has played only three back-to-back road games in five years. None
this season.

Trend of the Day
Ohio State is 17-1 against the spread playing on the road after a straight up loss.

Baylor - In six seasons as a college head coach, Matt Rhule has never seen his win
total go down at the same school. He was 2-10, 6-6 and 10-4 at Temple and so far
he is 1-11 and 7-6 at Baylor. That will change eventually, but there are a lot of reasons
to think Baylor will at least match its 7-6 record from 2018. For one, the nonconference
schedule is a cakewalk (S.F. Austin, UTSA, Rice). That's almost half of it right there.
Plus, Iowa State, Texas Tech, West Virginia and Texas all come to Waco. With both of
the Kansas schools down, the Bears should be able to find at least seven wins. The win
total opened at 6.5 which is a good number for taking the over in my opinion. I saw at
one book where the number has moved to seven.

*Two other win totals I like are Oklahoma State at 6.0 and Utah at 8.5. Take a look and
see what you think.

*The Baylor Bears have the most returning experience in the Big 12 this season including
their quarterback who threw for more than 3,000 yards last year.

Looks like the over is now 7 1/2 minus 125. I think Baylor probably wins 7 but I'm not touching 7 1/2.

I played Cincinnati over 6 1/2 minus 220. The juice is higher than I like but this should be a 9/10 win team. Opened at over 6 at some places but I was not able to get in at that number (I don't have Mr Pooh's connections).

If Cincinnati can get past UCLA in the opener and don't get beat up too bad in their second game against Ohio State,
they will be off to the races. The Bearcats have a ton of experience returning on both sides of the ball plus the best
punter in the country. $220 is a lot of juice but I would expect Cincy to win at least 7 games. GL

UAB - The Blazers, fresh off a program best 11 win campaign ranks at the bottom in terms
of schedule toughness. UAB has three really weak nonconference games against Alabama
State, Akron and South Alabama. They also avoid the Top 3 teams from CUSA's East Division
in Marshall, FAU and FIU and have 3 games against bottom ten teams nationally in West
Division play with UTEP, Rice and UTSA. In all, UAB plays only three opponents who finished
last season with a winning record and have the luxury of 5 matchups against teams who suffered
at least 9 losses last year. Tennessee is the only Power 5 team on the schedule.

Now, before anyone anoints UAB with another 11 win season, consider this. UAB heads into
the 2019 season replacing its leading passer, top 4 receivers, 4 offensive linemen, all of the
defensive line starters, 4 of the Top 5 linebackers and 4 of the top 6 defensive backs. In other
words, UAB will be a very inexperienced team with unproven depth. They lost 23 seniors who
made 70 percent of the starts during the 2018 season.

Because of Bill Clark and his staff and a very soft schedule, I believe UAB will be playing in
a bowl game following the season. Coach Clark is hard to go against with a 25-14 record and
even better for a betting man, 23-12-1 against the spread.

Pittsburgh - The Panthers were the No. 18 rushing team in the nation last year averaging
229.5 yards per game, but lost both of their 1,000 yard backs. Adding to the potential
problem is the loss of four starters on the offensive line, which puts a lot of pressure on
returning quarterback Kyler Murray. Defensively, Pitt lost 6 starters and has limited depth
at numerous spots, which means staying healthy is important for the Panthers. Defending
the Coastal Division Championship could prove to be a challenge this year.

Trend: Pittsburgh is 1-10 against the spread in the second of back-to-back HOME games.

Western Michigan - The Broncos have been among the top programs in the MAC over the
past five years. Injuries and inconsistent play on defense prevented last year's team from
making a run at another conference title, but that could change with the team bringing back
a roster loaded with proven playmakers. Keeping players healthy is a priority, especially the
quarterback who has had season ending injuries the past two seasons. The schedule isn't
easy, but this team has the horses to be pretty damn good. As many as 13 to 15 seniors will
be starters this year. Ten starters on defense and seven on offense return.

*Western Michigan is just 3-16 against the spread playing at Home after two Back-to-Back
straight up losses.

Appalachian State - On paper, the Mountaineers will begin the season favored in
every game but one, a road trip to South Carolina in November. In his first year,
coach Eli Drinkwitz should maintain the Mountaineers' stretch as undisputed Sun
Belt power. The potential sticking point comes on defense, where changes in per-
sonnel and coaching could lead to the sort of decline that means the difference
between a conference championship and a disappointing finish in the East Division.
Ten offensive and six defensive starters return for a team that was 11-2 last year.

*App State has won 35 of their last 39 games in Sun Belt Conference games.
