The NFL’s arrangement with DirecTV for NFL Sunday Ticket will end after the 2019 season — but only if the NFL acts to end the relationship within the coming weeks.

According to John Ourand and Ben Fischer of Sports Business Journal, the NFL must decide whether to opt out of the Sunday Ticket deal early by early September. If the NFL doesn’t exercise its right to end the arrangement earlier before the regular season begins on September 5, the contract between the league and DirecTV will continue through 2022.

The challenge for the NFL is simple: Stay the course for $1.5 billion per year from DirecTV, or roll the dice on what could be a better distribution package but less money. The NFL has been exploring whether other companies have interest in taking over Sunday Ticket. Per the report, however, none of the various streaming services will offer $1.5 billion for exclusive access to Sunday Ticket.

One potential approach would entail DirecTV offering the package via satellite, with another company taking over the streaming rights. That approach wouldn’t necessarily replace the $1.5 billion in annual revenue from DirecTV.

NFL Network was recently taken off U-verse
We don’t currently get red zone either.

Red Zone is a good option. But nothing beats the 8 games on one screen simultaneously that you can only get with the Ticket.

Is it worth paying the price for it vs Red Zone? Probably not. But it's the ultimate and better since you can see all the action live at once.

I cut the cord and I'm a Slinger now. I have the Orange and Blue package for $55 per month and the Red Zone Channel is included.

Totally agree, it's Red Zone of the Patriots for me. And when the Patriots game goes to a commercial, a switch to red zone

There's only one gripe I have with red zone, no bathroom breaks (maybe I should a TV in my bathroom and kitchen, ummmmmm)

never had ticket but with the 8 screen option what happens when they go to commercial. blank screen or do they show it. also you can't have sound on all eight tough to follow. maybe if you're into fantasy but no thanks.

No blank screen, commercials are shown like any other game you're watching. Also, you can choose which game you want sound on.

I hope and pray that someone will come to their senses and offer red zone streaming only...Otherwise I will continue to watch for free,as I have for the last 10 years or so...However I would gladly pay the 6 or 7 bucks or so per month that cable/satellite providers provide without a subscription to their other junk...

They don't go to commercial on that channel. It's a feed from 8 separate games. So 2 games could be on normal commercial while the other 6 are live action.

You can choose which particular game you want the sound on.

And it's not just for fantasy players. If you have action on numerous games it's fantastic.

Dish charges $13 a month for the multi sports pack with Red zone included.

Nothing beats all 8 games and anything you want to watch. Red Zone is a far cry from that. And in the grand scheme of things, it's peanuts compared to amounts people use for gambling. I have no desire to be limited to what the Red Zone wants to show. Red Zone is always late on any scoring plays that don't happen inside the 20.

Regardless of what the NFL decides, it means nothing as long as they continue with a monopoly. The only way it would matter is if there were multiple NFL Ticket options to get some competition going and possibly a lower price. But then. the NFL probably couldn't come close to the coin they get now, so I doubt anything will come of this. Non-story.

I agree on the 8 game feed, that one is always front and center on Sunday's. I hate when they have more than 8 games at once becuase 1 or 2 games gets dropped from the screen.

I love Red Zone as "The witching hour" is the BEST hour on TV!! Also fun to watch as i'm a dolphins fan and well, you know.

The worst part about red zone is when they wont show a game when the score is 35-10 and they dont give 2 shits that you have over 46.5 in that game!! ha
