think they Miami move was dumb, jimmy will get frustrated by the end of the year at how bad the team is. Their top 3 scorers from last yr are gone

LOL, to be fair there wasn't a team out there besides the NYK that wasn't going to pay KD to rehab
the winner there is GS because if KD would have optioned his next year they would have paid

The Knicks are the biggest losers and it is not even close. While the Clippers could end up being a big loser if they don't get Kawhi, they won't be looked at in the same negative light. The Knicks have been on a multi year plan to get to this day with tons of cash & arguably the best free agent class ever with the attitude that they would deliver the goods. Now while the original plan did not include trading Porzingis as he was supposed to team up with the superstar free agents, it only just created more cash and promise of something huge.

Instead they not only lose the two players they were 100% confident they would get, they lost them to a team in the same city. While I applaud them for not wanting to spend money just to spend it on non tier-1 players and instead save the cash for those players, where will they get them from? The class next year is not promising at all.

This says a lot about the Knicks when you are in what is considered the greatest city in the world and you play in legitimately the world's most famous arena and have hundreds of millions & still can't get people to come play for you.

The sad thing is outside of the Knicks, Dolan is actually a real down to earth pleasant guy. I know people who deal with him a lot and not one bad word is ever said about him unless it involves his baby which is the Knicks.

KD must really trust Kyrie as he never had the intention of going to Brooklyn yet somehow was convinced to do so.

So the Knicks gave away their best player with a huge upside and have nothing to show for it.

Dallas will be scary if Porzingis stays healthy.

How about Memphis, granted playing the long game, but did I just see they got the Warriors 1 in 2024 (protected 1-4), and Warriors unprotected 1st round in 2025 and 2026? The Warriors should be dumpster fire by then and the Grizz could really put something special together.

It was misreported at first, it's one pick that rolls over.

As far as KD goes, I think he probably was going to the Knicks before the injury. But once that happens, Kyrie isn't gonna spend a year on the Knicks winning 25 games so he wanted to go Brooklyn and Durant kinda had to follow since the Knicks were too barren. But we'll never know....Think the Knicks kinda just ran pretty damn bad in that spot rather than the usual incompetence they are known for.

Philly, Utah, Boston, Milwaukee, Sacto, GS have all done well so far I'd say.

And BK as much of a cloud as there is over that right now obviously did very well.

Thank you for the clarification on the GS pick situation. I read the original report and thought that’s the one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen.

Oh and one last thing about the Knicks. For a team that is more paranoid about bad PR making the owner and brand itself (not the players) than any other team in sports (know this first hand from someone who works there), how in the hell do you let it come out that you were not going to offer him the max anyway. What moron thought that would make them save face for losing out on KD? Also how stupid must you be to announce the upcoming signing of anyone on the same day after losing both of your targets knowing that will make you look even worse. The only signing that would have saved face for them after the KD & Kyrie thing was if they got Kawhi. Anything else was not going to cut it.

I'd guess that is 100% BS that the Knicks wouldn't pay KD. Probably just never got to that stage in the negotiations so they put it out there.

Look on the bright side, there's always Giannis 2021. Zion 2025? Some 8th grade 2032?

Nobody right now wants to play for James Dolan. Too much dysfunction at the top.

D Angelo Russel goes to the Warriors. Interesting.

Igudola to the Grizzles. Knew he was leaving after what he said publicly. Their dynasty just ends like that.

Butler to the Heat

The biggest winners is the Eastern Conference.

I thought the Knicks played their hand as well as they could. I expected them to panic and do something stupid. Unfortunate on the KD injury, because everything I heard, which could be BS, was he was going there pre-injury. The Randle singing was great IMO and you didn’t blow the only asset you have, money. As Pats said, I don’t buy they weren’t willing to pay KD for a second, but EGD was right on the money that next years FA class is weak. I’d consider this a win for NYK at least in terms of reaction to outcomes, but you could argue the fact NYK couldn’t draw in a KD is a failure and I wouldn’t disagree.

Warriors were hard capped after sign and trade so Iggy had to be dealt to get Russell. I'd imagine he is on a contender by next year one way or another. Via buyout or another trade where Memph gets a pick for him.

They will have to lose Looney/Liv as well pretty sure. But it was either that or lose Durant for nothing.

Now they can see how Russell fits in the next year and if not then they can just deal him but it is pretty big to get him when it looked like they were going to lose KD for nothing.

Rockets and Nuggets pretty quiet this off season. I guess they both think they are good as is

Current odds: Lakers the huge favorite at +150 to win it all. GS at 10 to 1. Hornets +100,000

Love C's landing Kemba, but they need a big. Maybe Morris can be salvaged

I love Big Al, but I love him at the 5 and less so at the 4. Also don't know how good he's going to be at age 37. The Sixers have to win now with / for him

I think the Lakers need another key piece, if Kawhi stays in Toronto I don't think LA is the 2020 chalk

There were a few odd moves that went down yesterday...

D. Russell to the Warriors?

Russell is an improving, talented scoring guard. It's pretty easy for most players to fit with Curry, Thompson and Green, but he seems like an odd choice. He never stood out to me as much of a defender or rebounder. I know they lost Durant, who seemed like a much better fit with his size and D, not to even mention offensively which you just won't be able to match. Not sure why they felt so desperate to fill that salary spot that popped open with Durant leaving, they probably won't be a serious contender with Thompson next year anyway. Couldn't that save that slot for a better free agent in the price range next offseason?
Maybe the Warriors feel Thompson will be back before the end of the year and they will be legit champion contenders next year, so they are in win now mode. Can't blame them in that case I guess.

Butler to the Heat?

He is a really good player. But he isn't a top line superstar carry your team type of player. The Heat are a middling semi talented team. Butler is aging with a lot of tread on his tires. Butler talked about wanting to win all the time. Instead he goes to a team that certainly won't win anything just so he could be "the man". Usually players at his age who aren't quite good enough give up on the pipe dream of being "the man" on a championship team and start looking to win being second fiddle, not vice versa. Then what the hell are the Heat thinking By the time they get any talent around Butler he might be washed up to the point of being just an average player in two years. He's not a "box office" type player who will put fannys in the seats either.

Most of the other moves made sense to me at least.

The Nets moves seem a little overrated. I get what they did is no easy feet. But Durant has a year off and probably won't be the same when he does get back . Probably still worth the money. Kyrie I think it overated a bit and could be a cancer here as well. Jordan seemed to become pretty irrelevent the last couple years and lost some of his luster. But that seemed to reflect in his fairly cheap price tag, don't think he is that old though so maybe he can rejuvanate himself.
