A Detroit music festival has sparked outrage by offering half-price tickets to “people of color” — with at least one biracial artist pulling out in protest.

The AfroFuture Fest has early-bird ticket prices of $10 for POC (“people of color”) while anyone else has to pay $20. Tickets eventually rise to $20 for POC and $40 non-POC for the August 3 event.

Local rapper Tiny Jag pulled out of performing as soon as she learned of the race-based price disparity.

“I was immediately enraged just because I am biracial,” the rapper, real name Jillian Graham, told the Detroit Metro Times.

“I have family members that would have, under those circumstances, been subjected to something that I would not ever want them to be in … especially not because of anything that I have going on.”

She was particularly troubled because some of her material is inspired by her grandmother, Polly, who is white.

“How do you want me to come to a performance and perform these songs off a mixtape that is titled after this white woman that you would have charged double to get in here?

“Like, it’s just outrageous from so many different angles,” she told the Metro Times, also announcing on Twitter how she was no longer involved.

Festival organizers declined to comment to the paper, but addressed the ticket prices on its official Eventbrite page.

“Our ticket structure was built to insure [sic] that the most marginalized communities (people of color) are provided with an equitable chance at enjoying events in their own community (Black Detroit),” the festival stated on its official Eventbrite page.

“Affording joy and pleasure is unfortunately still a privilege in our society for POC and we believe everyone should have access to receiving such.”

The statement claims that “people outside of the community” usually lose out to those with “proximity to wealth.

“This cycle disproportionately displaces Black and brown people from enjoying entertainment in their own communities,” the statement adds.

They assume all white people are filthy rich
that's why poverty stats ALWAYS cite percentages because there are twice the amount of whites in poverty than blacks. that doesn't play well with the narrative

Bet a good lawyer could prove everyone is a "person of color" cause they pretty much are.

All colors are equal, but some colors are more equal than others.

Music festival will no longer charge white people more for tickets

A Detroit music festival has dropped its controversial plan to charge white concertgoers twice as much as people of color — saying it was for the “safety of the community” following a furious backlash.

The AfroFuture Fest sparked outrage with its ticketing model for the August 3 event that saw people of color paying a maximum of $20 compared to $40 for “Non-POC” tickets.

Biracial rapper Tiny Jag was so “enraged” she publicly withdrew from performing, and ticketing website Eventbrite threatened to bar the festival from its services, according to the Independent.

The festival finally backed down late Sunday — but blamed threats from racists rather than the race-based disparity itself.

“For the safety of our community, family, elders who received threats from white supremacists,& youth who were subjected to seeing racist comments on our IG pg, Afrofuture Fest has changed our ticketing model to $20 General Admission & suggested donation for nonPOC on @eventbrite,” organizers announced on Twitter late Sunday.

However, Eventbrite had earlier made it clear the festival would not be able to carry on using its website if it stuck with the pricing policy.

“We do not permit events that require attendees to pay different prices based on their protected characteristics such as race or ethnicity,” a rep told the Independent.

“In this case, we have notified the creator of the event about this violation and requested that they alter their event accordingly. We have offered them the opportunity to do this on their own accord; should they not wish to comply we will unpublish the event completely from our site.”

The rep continued: “Our mission is to bring the world together through live experiences. We strive to provide a platform that enables people to gather for their chosen purpose, and that reflects diverse viewpoints, so long as they don’t violate our terms.”

Festival organizers had earlier insisted the ticket structure was “built to insure [sic] that the most marginalized communities (people of color) are provided with an equitable chance at enjoying events in their own community (Black Detroit).”

“Affording joy and pleasure is unfortunately still a privilege in our society for POC and we believe everyone should have access to receiving such,” they stated.

Lmao@ backing down cuz of threats from racist people......look who's calling the kettle black.

These clowns are retarded......color has nothing to do with being rich or poor.

Try selling tickets at half price for poor people in all color/races, etc......& sell full price to the rich, then you may be onto something.......but that may be illegal as well, but its far better than using the race card.

Good, ethical, honorable white men live in fear of being called a bigot, a racist, by an AA.

If you work for an organization, a company, whatever, especially a large organization and that happens, you are in deep trouble, your friends will run for cover, HR will be after you, and there will be very possible consequences, even without evidence.

If you are a manager or top executive and the AA's organize a protest, in your front lobby or front lawn, and TV cameras show up... whoa.

Even with NO evidence, an AA can do that, and incite a chain reaction of events.

AA's understand this and exploit it every day as best they can, to some extent, even to a significant extent, and you dare not fire one!

THAT is where we are...
