Zach Johnson +17500

He has been nothing for the last couple years. Not even a contender. But he did win the British Open a few years ago. I'm sure it's a different course and might be totally different type of course then when he won. But sometimes players get a renewed confidence when they go where they have had big success in the past. The +17500 just seems like it's awfully high.

can't wait!!!! ........last major of the year....................Glory's Last Shot.......

Rahm will ultimately win a major. He's just too good not to. He's better than Sergio

Matt Wallace has been fantastic ytd. A future Ryder Cup participant

Rory? he has caved to pressure in the past , and is now seated in arguably his most pressurized situation? Hoping he has a chance come Sunday

(Reuters) - Rory McIlroy has signaled an attacking policy for this week's British Open, saying he hopes to use his driver liberally at Royal Portrush after having enjoyed considerable success with the strategy last year.
The par-71 Portrush measures a whisker over 7,300 yards, though links courses generally play shorter than their yardages due to firm fairways that afford plenty of roll.
Long hitters such as McIlroy need not hit their driver often but it can be advantageous to do so.
"Carnoustie last year I didn't envisage hitting that many drivers and then I got there the week of the tournament," McIlroy told Reuters of last year's British Open in an interview organized by NBC's Golf Channel.
What he saw at the Scottish course was less potential for trouble with wayward drives than he expected. A subsequent tie for second vindicated his attacking game-plan.
"I think what they've started to do at Open championships, to accommodate spectators, they've taken a lot of the gorse bushes away so Carnoustie last year I hit driver everywhere," he said.
"I'm not expecting to do that at Portrush (but) it might be a case of like Carnoustie last year where I (arrive) thinking I'm only going to hit three or four drivers during the round but in actual fact it could be more like seven or eight, or nine or 10."
McIlroy guesses that he has played Portrush between 50 and 100 times but only a handful of occasions since a re-design two years ago that included two new holes.

At Portrush in 2005, a 16-year-old McIlroy shattered the course record in shooting 61 at the North of Ireland Championship.
To commemorate, McIlroy has released a limited run of 61-degree wedges in partnership with NBC's subscription website GOLFPASS.
McIlroy made a quick stop at Portrush en route to the Scottish Open, where he tied for 34th on Sunday.
Though he found his comfort level quickly, he said he still thinks of the par-three known as 'Calamity Corner' as the 14th hole, even though it is now the 16th.
"It’s just so hard for me to wrap my head around the new layout," he said.
"I keep calling them the old hole numbers."

Saw Sergio Garcia at +6600.

I forget. Did he ever end up winning one? Or was that a massive choke at the end? I can't remember.

Maybe he won a lower level tournament. I always rooted for him years ago after I saw videos of him running after a tee shot like a hunting dog runs after a duck in the wild.

I don't follow golf, you white cuck.

If I ask you if you know who won the Wimbledon juniors, you'll have no idea b/c you don't follow juniors tennis.

Now go back to your white enclave and chant "Refugees welcome".

Tiger Woods’s cheeky attempt to get some inside knowledge of the links ahead of this 148th British Open - by inveigling to arrange a practice round with Brooks Koepka, whose Portrush-born caddie Ricky Elliott knows the course better than anyone - was met with no response.
“I texted Brooksie,” said Woods, laughing. “(Sent) congratulations on another great finish (in the US Open) . . . he’s been in contention to win each and every Major championship (of late). And I said, ‘hey dude, do you mind if I tag along and play a practice round?’ I’ve heard nothing.”@)
Although he was met with silence on that particular effort, Woods and his own caddie Joe LaCava have worked together to try to work out how to play a links course which, for the vast majority of the field, takes them into the unknown given it is playing host to the championship for the first time since 1951.
Woods - in the past - played a lot of links golf in Ireland ahead of the British Open championships, taking in Waterville, Portmarnock, The European and Royal County Down among others but had never made it as far north as Portrush.
“It’s amazing that it hasn’t been here in such a long period of time. I know that the R&A has a deal where we go back and forth from Scotland to England. This is just a wonderful golf course. It can play so many different ways, depends on the wind, what it does. Some of the bunkers here, you wonder why in the hell is it there. And then all of a sudden it’s in play.
“The difference between this layout versus most of the Open rota layouts is that the ball seems to repel around the greens a lot. You’re going to have a lot of either bump-and-run chips, chips, or quite a bit of slow putts coming up the hills. But it’s an unbelievable golf course,” said Woods of the layout as he finalises his preparations in his bid for a 16th career Major.

Woods, winner of the Masters at Augusta National in April, has played only sparingly as he protects his body. In fact, he has played only three times since that Masters win - at the PGA, where he missed the cut, at the Memorial where he tied-ninth and the US Open when he finished tied-21st - and that intentionally light schedule has been designed to target the Majors.
“This year I made a conscious effort to cut back on my schedule to make sure that I don’t play too much. I want to play here as long as I possibly can. And you have to understand, if I play a lot, I won’t be out here that long. So it’s understanding how much I can play, prepping how much I do at home and getting ready. And that’s the tricky part is trying to determine how much tournament play I need to get the feel for the shots and also understanding where my body is,” said Woods, who contended at Carnoustie last year until the back nine of the final round.
Woods concluded his on course work on Tuesday, with the plan to work on his swing on the range and to take Wednesday off and perhaps indulge in some local sightseeing.

https://www.rte.ie/sport/golf/2019/0716/1063379-koepka-keen-to-make-local-hero-an-open-legend/

[h=1]Brooks Koepka keen to make local hero an Open legend[/h]
Brooks Koepka may be a four-time major winner and world number one, but for the only time in his career he is playing second-fiddle to his caddie this week.
Ricky Elliott hails from Portrush and Koepka hopes his local knowledge of the course will give him an advantage on a links which has not hosted the Open since 1951.
Such is Elliott's perceived inside track that even 15-time major winner Tiger Woods, a man known for being solitary and single-minded in his preparations, tried to piggyback on his wisdom.

But Elliott's presence on the fairways this week means Koepka is walking slightly in his shadow, with the American himself even talking about how great it would be for the 41-year-old bagman to win in his home town.
"I probably hear more, 'Ricky, hey, Ricky, what's going on?' than anything," said the current USPGA champion, who has been with Elliott for six years.
"I'm sure he'll have quite a bit of friends and family out. It will be a special week for him, for sure."
Asked if his caddie was enjoying the attention, Koepka added: "He has to be. He has to be.
"I don't think when he grew up that he ever thought there would be an Open Championship here and to top it off, I don't think he ever thought he'd be a part of it.
"And to be caddying and to be able to win one here would be - he'd be a legend, wouldn't he? He already is. But it would be cool to see him win.
"I wouldn't want anybody else on my bag. He's been tremendous. He's part of the reason why I've had the success I've had.
"I love the guy to death and am looking forward to many years to come, he's not going to leave me for a long time."

Elliott, and Koepka, are probably best placed to succeed considering the golfer's form in majors this year, with two runners-up spots to add to his PGA win.
In the last 11 majors he has four wins and four other top-six finishes, but outside of golf's premier events this year he has been less impressive with just three top-10s in 11 regular strokeplay events.
"I just practice before the majors. Regular tournaments I don't practice. If you've seen me on TV, that's when I play golf," he said.
"I left Travelers (on 23 June) and showed up at 3M on Tuesday night (2 July ). The Wednesday was the first time I touched a club in, what, 10 days?
"That happens week in and week out. Majors I like to play the week before and find a rhythm, build a rhythm, so got over here Friday and have practised.
"I want to play the best I can every week. I want to play well in majors. And whether it comes, great; and if it doesn't, I'm actually happy with my life right now.
"I feel like I'm in a good spot and that's all that matters to me."

the 5th hole is a short par 4 hole, risk /reward. Dustin Johnson is echoing Rory's sentiment; to play aggressive. Pulling out driver :). DJ stated only one hole he'll likely not use a wood off the tee (the 9th).

players in form;
H Stenson- last two tournaments , tied for 4th last week at the Scottish Open. Top 10 at The US Open. He has terrific history at The Open Championship

J Rahm- won The Irish Open two weeks ago

B Wiseberger- playing out of skin--- won The Scottish Open last week. Tied for 2nd behind Rahm at The Irish Open the previous week . Leads the Euro tour in points

Rafa Cabrera Bello- nearly won the Irish Open . Followed that with a top 10 in Scotland last week

P Cantlay, M Wallace both enjoying great years. Cantlay with 2 top 10's in majors this year.

X Schauffele- keeps knocking on the door at a major. Comfortable with links golf. In his last 10 majors he has 5 finishes of 6th or better.

hard not to like Rahm, to see him perform well...btw he's -105 as Top Spaniard. Who are his threats? Garcia is not in form, Bello is playing well.

weather BRUTAL today, yikes. Scores would have been ugly if this was Thursday, got to love links golf; at the mercy of Mother Nature
