Zeke officially a 'non-report' for Cowboys camp

Running back Ezekiel Elliott is "late" to training camp and, as a non-report, can be subject to fines under the guidelines of the CBA, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Friday.

Elliott failed to join the majority of the team on a plane to Los Angeles Thursday for the start of camp, but he had until Friday morning to show before being considered late.

Jones did not use the word "holdout" to describe Elliott's status. "He's late," Jones said. "We have officially reported, and so he's a non-report officially.

"Zeke is an outstanding player. I don't want to seem cavalier about it, but I also don't want to be unrealistic being alarmed about it. This is what we do. This is the air we breathe. And if you flared and knee-jerked or went just because you have parts of it that need addressing, you wouldn't be able to manage. You wouldn't be functioning. I just want to put it in perspective."

The Cowboys had their conditioning run and physicals and held a team meeting Friday. Their first practice in Oxnard, California, is Saturday.

Elliott is seeking a new contract. He has two years left on his existing rookie deal.

"When you've done this as long as we've done it, none of this, there's no surprises," executive vice president Stephen Jones said. "We've been doing this for 30 years and so it's part of the game."

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said the coaching staff will focus on the players who arrived.

"We expect all of our players to be here," Garrett said. "Obviously Zeke is not here. Zeke's been a really good player for us over the last three years. Very impactful guy. Had a great offseason for us. There's a business to the NFL that happens. Our focus as a coaching staff, as an organization is on the guys who are here. It's really as simple as that."

Rumors have persisted for most of the offseason that Elliott would sit out camp in hopes of earning a long-term contract extension, but he did not miss a day of the voluntary offseason program or mandatory minicamp in June. Under his current contract, Elliott is set to make $3.85 million in 2019 and $9.09 million on the 2020 fifth-year option the team picked up in the spring.

The running backs on the Cowboys' roster not named Ezekiel Elliott have combined for six carries and 16 yards in their careers, all from Darius Jackson in last year's season finale. The other two are rookie draft picks Tony Pollard and Mike Weber.

A deal is a deal.
I hate these multi million dollar athletes who are making good money but then hold out for more when their value goes up.
The ones that fail keep the money, don't they?

These RB holdouts usually don't end well, more often than not they result in disappointing seasons

But it's still early at this point

The Chargers went 4-0 last year without Gordon. The Rams 4-0 without Gurley during their SB run. In 2017 the Cowboys were 3-3 without Zeke during a 9-7 season.

I have to respectfully disagree with you on this one my friend. NFL contracts are not guaranteed, and the owners often times get to walk away. Since the owners can reneg, so can the pkayers.

They can walk from any contract that's NOT 100% guaranteed. It's the only sport I say that about

Big deal.

1. You are a RB
2. Your QB is Dak (nice name)

It's over. As the #4 overall pick, he already got his $$. RB is a plug and play position. And aren't difference makers in win/loss record. Colts are doing just fine with a nobody as their running back. So are the Patriots. So will the Chiefs. Steelers were fine getting way from the noise and moving on to Connor.

If your running back is really important to your 2019 success, you already lost.

Owners don't get to renegotiate. They can cut you.
Why can they walk away? Oh ya, because the players CBA allows this. Blame the players, not the owners.

Who do these RB's think they are? The position is too replaceable.

Agree....with the new style of play most teams are doing with the dump offs and swing passes a lot of these RB's can fill the position just fine. Any RB that makes an NFL roster are in tremendous shape and talented. Look at KC and PITT last year I'm sure there's more

<header id="page-rubric" class="" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Lato, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 10px; margin-top: 30px; overflow: hidden; position: relative;">[h=1]Lawsuit Alleges Dallas Cowboys Conspired With Police To Cover Up Severity Of 2017 Car Crash Involving Ezekiel Elliott[/h]FRISCO, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – A man who says he was injured in the January 11, 2017 crash with Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott alleges in a lawsuit, the Cowboys and Frisco Police “conspired” to “cover up the severity of the accident” so Elliott would not have to miss a playoff game four days later.
Elliott slammed a GMC Yukon into a BMW 750 driven by Ronnie Hill on his way to Cowboys practice.
The crash happened in the area of Dallas Parkway and Gaylord Parkway, less than a mile from Dallas Cowboys Headquarters.
The plaintiff, Ronnie Hill, claims Elliott was at fault because he was running late to practice and “barreled through a red light” causing more than $33,000 in damage to Hill’s vehicle.
Hill also claims in the lawsuit he was physically injured in the wreck.
The lawsuit says, “the crash resulted in the two vehicles being wedged together to the extent that a tow-truck was required to pull them apart.”
The lawsuit also claims, “At the scene of the crash, Elliott admitted fault, and the Frisco Police also concluded that the crash was Elliott’s fault. Elliott and running back’s coach Gary Brown who was on the scene told Hill not to worry about anything, go get checked out and ‘we will take care of everything.’ If anyone had actually reported the impact of the accident and had Elliott been examined he would have most likely been placed in concussion protocol and out for the Dallas Cowboys upcoming playoff game. Upon information and belief, the Dallas Cowboys conspired with the Frisco Police Department to cover up the severity of the accident to assure that Elliott’s health would not be placed in question before their playoff game.”

if the owners don't have to honor the contract, then neither do the players

I don't care what name or what reason you choose to give it, contracts are not supposed to be one way streets

it's not rocket science

Jerry Jones said that running backs do not make Super Bowl winners.

Looks like we might get a long standoff.

Elliott signed a 4 year contract in 2016 worth $24,956,311 including a signing
bonus worth $16,350,066. He is now in the fourth year of his deal and wants
the Cowboys to make a new deal. Dallas has a fifth year option that would pay
a little over 9 million in 2020 as BAS indicated earlier.

Last year of his contract...can't blame him for wanting more years.

Zeke led the NFL Rushing last year and set to make 3.5 million in 2019. Bell males 14 million in 2019. Gurley will make 13.8.

I would be asking for more also. Oh and Zeke missed the first 6 games.
