My wife is only 27, but has bulging disc's in her back. This has been an on going issue for almost a year now. It took awhile to get an mri approved through insurance, so we have only known for the last few months. The first time the issue popped up, she was on bed rest for the better part of 4-6 weeks with limited activity. The problem gradually went away and she returned to a normal routine (with minor pain/needing rest etc). It has gone out on her another 2-3 times with anywhere from 1-2 weeks of down time needed to do even the most minor of tasks requiring her to be on her feet for more than a few mins. She has started her own business during this time period, mostly on the weekends, but was free to sit or stand as needed. Recently she has started working part time during the week for more consistant money and lasted only 6 days at work before her back was shot again. shes taking prescribed muscle relaxers and hydrcodne 4+ times a day and sleeping a ton. They have recommended her getting an epidermal shot in her back, but its 2-4 weeks to get on the schedule for that. They wont do surgery due to the location of the bulging disc's unless they rupture, I spoke to her dr about applying for disability, as i just dont see how she can have any type of steady income or hold a job, as companies wont put up with an employee in and out of being able to work, especially a new employee and he thought it was a good idea, but also stated they dont ask for your dr's opinion anymore, they just request medical records and make a decision off those.

Take her to a chiropractor.

Ive brought it up numerous times, but she doesnt really have faith in chriopractors. I think she is afraid they are going to do an adjustment and up paralyzed. Ive thought about going myself: years of playing sports and partying in college, im sure my body could use it, and maybe help her over her fears

I swear by chiropractic.
Bring her to Galena for a weekend and I'll introduce you to my doctor.

hydrocodone 4x a day is not sustainable
she will develop tolerance and go down a bad route

bulging disk can be treated with diskectomy but i guess like you said they aren't considering surgery an option at this time

she needs to find a good trainer/PT to strengthen her core muscles. she also needs to increase her flexibility ie.yoga, which also builds core muscles. these will gain her the most long term benefit for non-surgical management of chronic back pain.

Not be funny, is she overweight?

Not to be mean either, but I guarantee she is. My family has a history of back problems. While some can be genetic, but all about your lifestyle and weight. I lost 60 lbs and back has never felt better. I do have a partially torn ACL from football. But not weight related

Thats why I asked. My sister had severe back problems and was easily 120 pounds overweight. Opted for surgery instead of listening to my suggestions. Can lead a horse to water.......

Shes probably about 20-25 lbs from her target weight. She has pcos, so it can be hard for her to lose weight, even when working out alot. Toss in the back injury over the last yr and that is where she has gained much of thst 25 lbs. She switched over to a vegeterian diet about 6 werks ago

Plenty of lawyers do these types of cases for free upfront.

I went through it with ruptured disc in my neck. Unfortunately was denied and finally gave up after a couple appeals up the chain. Most important thing I can say is don’t let the Hydro become a habit. I was on it almost a year, cut down to 2 a day, and actually felt LESS pain when I quit entirely.

Going through all that crap is awful, she needs your support.

Find one of those free lawyers (do some research to find the best in your area).

Good luck and I hope she gets better:103631605
