New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has agreed to a two-year, $70 million contract extension, according to media reports.

Brady, a six-time Super Bowl champion and one of the best players the game has ever known, will also receive a hefty raise this season.

Under the new contract, Brady will receive an $8 million raise in 2910, bringing up his salary to a hefty $23 million. The extension also calls for him to earn $30 million in 2020 and $32 million in 2021 - when he will be 44.

Have I earned [an extension]? I don't know," Brady told reporters, NFL.com reported. "That's up for talk show debate. What do you guys think? Should we take a poll?"

Brady, 42, led the Patriots to a 13-3 win over the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII. He is only one of four players to have won six NFL titles.

The others are Herb Adderley and Forrest Gregg and their teammate, Fuzzy Thurston, who all played for Vince Lombardi's Green Bay Packers.

Brady and the Patriots will open their season against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 8.

Sounds like a classic example of paying for past performance

Like last season :)

He's still not the highest QB in the league, he's definitely NOT being overpaid, never has been

Anyhow, my take on this is that he's just trying to stop all those questions about why he hasn't signed an extension. I don't think it means he's playing three more years. Pure speculation on my part

I think he's now the 6th highest paid qb this season.

Lets face facts here. The REAL MVP of the patriots is Giselle. If she wasnt making 30+ million a year, Brady would be making a shitload more and the pats wouldnt be able to manuever under the salary cap.

The patriots are the only franchise in which their fans love to jerk off to both the qb and the qb's wife

patriot fans do not like her since she is trying to steer her hubby into retirement so they can travel to costa rica and rio more often than they do now. also, father time has caught up to her. she is losing her looks and shape quite rapidly. she no longer allows close up photos of her face and body.

Its probably against the rules but they should sign him to a 2 year 100 million extension to be activated the first season both he and Bellicheck are retired. Until then just pay him 15 mil a year and use the cap space to support these title runs. They would need to rebuild after they both leave so why no just pay Brady the money then even if he never plays a down during those years.

Lets just say that I hope the Pats have better luck with that contract than have the Sox at least this year have had with Sale's longer term one.
Sale, who is just 30(12 years younger than Brady) and who may have peaked out based on what we have seen so far this season, as well as continued lack of durability once again as the season goes into August and September, makes his contract questionable.
Personally I don't believe that any player/FA in any sport should be a given a guaranteed contract for more than two years tops for lots of reasons.
I will save that topic for another day though and in a separate thread.

^ I believe it's a essentially a one year deal. Both sides can get out after 2019.

It was a way for NE not to franchise him.

They are going to call offensive holding a lot more this year, point of emphasis, they say.
Brady is an all time great, but at his age if he gets hit, he is very vulnerable to nagging dings that affect his throws, or of course significant injuries.
Without assesssing their schedule (Jets & Bills improved?), I would take a look at "under 11 1/2 wins" since I think it is very possible he will miss some games. Or his skills will finally diminish, especially regular season, then if he is OK fight harder in the playoffs.
I've made some $$$ on the Pats, including the last Super Bowl, but the Brady legend might finally falter this year.
Not hoping so... but am pointing it out.

Let just say that if there were a betting prop somewhere as to whether Pats will be above 500 or below 500 ATS in regular season based on closing line, I would make a decent bet that they will finish below 500 ats for lots of reasons including inflated lines because of who they are and past performance.

THe guy virtually never gets injured. People here said that he had lost his stuff last year. How'd that work out? His arm is as strong as ever.

THe guy is a freak. He hasn't missed a game since 2008 when he tore his ACL in Game 1 and went out for the season. THe only exception was 2016 when he lost the first four games to deflategate. Prior to the torn ACL in 2008 the guy never missed a game since he took over for an injured Drew Bledsoe in Game 3 of the 2001 season. Counting on injury to Brady is just dumb.

They have been calling his demise since his mid thirties. THEY are just dumb.
