Not really politics or sports related but plenty of threads in this forum not matching that criteria....

So my question, how much lower would hate crimes, mass shootings and terrorist related activities be if Internet never invented?

Without trying to research data back in ‘80’s or before, I’d say 75% lower.

We keep hearing about having a forum to share hatred, plans, etc etc...snail mail, CB/Ham radio not too efficient back in the day.

it's not just about hate crimes or mass shootings ... it's a major contributor to shit like depression, anxiety, normalizing freakish behaviors, and destroying traditional socialization in adolescents. it's also the place where people with radical political views, particularly leftists who use their politics to replace religion, dominate and "normalize" what would previously have been considered insane behavior. shit, social media is normalizing garbage like drag queens reading "what color is your underwear" to 3-6 year olds at a public library

but it's really about how adolescents and teens are never given a break. in the good old day of high school if you weren't invited to a weekend party you didn't find out about it until the following school week. now, kids are seeing their friends taking selfies and pics and posting them real-time while they're at home raging against their "friends". Its' fucking with their self-esteem, their sleep, their attention span, and has become such an addiction that kids are sleeping with phones under their pillows so they'll get woken up by a vibration if someone posts on one of their pages. Look up the brain effects on kids after posting a picture on facebook or instagram. the obsession and anxiety over getting likes and followers tosses their dopamine levels around and, of course, is taking away from time when you're actually interacting with another individual.

looks like the dude in dayton has some menial-ass job in his mid-20's making burritos as Chipotle and spend the rest of his time reading and retweeting radical left news from antifa and MSM. he was never going to amount to shit in the world and certainly wasn't going to find god (was an atheist), start a business, and raise a family so ingested every extremist talking point as his new social religion. flip through his tweets and it's exactly what you read when thedonger or vit/largemarge post here each day. same terms, same verbiage, same narrative, same hate, same discomfort in being such a loser in life. just like in real life in grade school and high school, everyone hates them and thinks they're a psycho freak because, well, they are

I have parents of teenage kids telling me that when they post something on instagram (facebook is for "old people"), and if doesnt get too many "likes" or positive comments, they get depressed. Seeing that they didnt get invited to a party gets them depressed.

My kids were actually at the pediatrician over the weekend and the doctor was asking them questions evaluating their mental health being and the effects that we live in an area that suffered a mass shooting in the past year.

Hell, read this website and certain people could drive you crazy (if they catch ya on a bad day)

Social media has destroyed our society.......the internet itself is a double edged sword, can be used for good & bad......but yes, it's taken society in a dark place, & it's only gonna get worse.

Let's not forget, there have been dark times before in society.....the 1960's & 1970's in America had a lot of craziness going on. Domestic terrorism was running rampant.

Today we have international & domestic terrorism, but with a twist.....we have the internet & social media that turn nobody's into somebody, at least that's what they believe.

One thing the young generation have today that wasn't available in the 60's & 70's we're violent video games where you're immersed for hours on end & it looks so real, some of these kids can't separate reality from fantasy.

Same goes for movies......

I dont think its destroyed our society as i've been on facebook/twitter for over 10 years and I have actually received benefits from it by reconnecting with friends and helping me with business.

I'm also mentally stable

I dont blame video games at all. I played shooting games as a kid. I know not to shoot people. I played grand theft auto in my 20's, i know not to steal cars.

My kids play fighting games (and they know about shooting games). They know not to punch people for no reason and not to shoot people

That's the main thing though. If you don't get invited to hang out with friends and see pics of it on Facebook you probably say "hope they have fun and tell me about it next time we hang out!" Teenagers probably get depressed and think they were excluded. That's a very minor thing but if you are already not stable that won't help.

When I was growing up if there was an event I wasn't invited to I probably didn't even know it. I probably would be a little disappointed but not go postal about it. As you get older that stuff HOPEFULLY bothers you less.

But the facebook/instagram/etc world is not what people's lives are really about. I know a couple who is miserable, they both hate each other but according to facebook you would think they were soulmates

which is another reason social media is a disaster...it's an idealized version of people's lives. nobody posts the normal negative daily shit that comes along just the extremes and then impressionable kids and young adults hate themselves (and others) for not living up to that level. you actually have parents out there emailing and calling other parents when their kid doesn't "like" or "retweet" something their child posted. it's a bizarre parallel reality.

and as someone said above social media can make nobodies into somebodies, in their distorted minds. these are people with nothing positive in their lives but, like donger, they go on and post stupid shit like "put a shotgun in your mouth and pull the trigger, nazi" and they suddenly feel like a big man. and they regurgitate their antifa garbage to get a bunch of likes and retweets and suddenly their embarrassingly worthless live has meaning. then, for the next 8 hours, they do nothing but post out more insane shit to drive those dopamine hits in their brains and further distance themselves from being a decent human and a contributor to society

Social media is absolutely causing significant damage to our society, very hurtful to our culture.

And Facebook-Google-Twitter-YouTube need to be broken up, they are far too powerful.

Standard Oil? Just gasoline. AT&T? Just phones (then).

Facebook-Google-Twitter-YouTube control most all information, data, public and personal: and our privacy. I do not think they will be stopped.

It's going to tough to reverse this. The culture of victimhood, sensitivity, inclusion, everyone gets a trophy. We go from the greatest generation ever storming the beaches of Normandy to this nonsense. I feel bad for my kids. Even worse for my future grand kids.

I've said it before but I coach 12 year old select/travel baseball. We cut a kid this year and when I called the parents they said the reason I cut their kid is because I don't like them as parents and I like the kids parents we picked up more. They ended the call with that they hope when I go to sleep tonight I picture their sons face when they tell him the coaches don't want him on their team and how it will devastate him.

Just don't get it. No one wants their kids to be told he isn't good enough but when he is obviously the worst on the team to everyone besides the parents. Are they going to call his boss someday if he doesn't get a job or promotion?

I think 24 hour news, the internet, social media have all helped to increase the anger and the hatred we see today.

So many lies, so many issues they pretend are black and white (pun intended) when they're not. Politicians and the media have absolutely contributed to this crisis

Voices of reason are hard to find

those parents should know this is a rep team, the best as seen through the eyes of the coaches make it. It aint house league. They may not agree with the decision but to use guilt and put this on the coach? Speaks poorly of them, hopefully they see this in time. They should have thanked you for volunteering your time and giving little Johnny a shot. i DO understand that' its their kid, it can be very hard. With that said, you are goign to get these kinds of people . Always. Not entirely convinced its more pervasive nowadays, at least not in my neck of the woods.
