Costa Rican Authorities Intercept Vessel Carrying 35 Million in Cocaine

In an operation in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Costa Rican Coast Guard Service and Drug Control Police seized 1,002 kilograms of cocaine with a value of over $35,000,000 USD.
The vessel, under the name “Princeso Claudio”, was intercepted 53 nautical miles off the coast of Puntarenas, 4 men were arrested with last names López Avalos ,45 years of age who was the captain, and three others with last names Espinoza Alvarez, 34 years old; Flores Zamora, age 33 and Mejía Zambrano, 44 years old. The first two are Costa Rican and the others Nicaraguan.


The packages of drug were hidden under a double lining.
So far this year Costa Rican authorities have confiscated closed to 15 tons of cocaine with a street value of over $550,000,000 USD.
