My niece is getting married in a few weeks. Will give them cash. What is the correct amount these days?

For years I've given a Benjamin. Trying help out a niece or a nephew.

Then some chick where I worked said that was not enough because of the price of weddings.

I think she said that because she was getting married in a few months. Greedy bitch.

You want to at least cover the cost of the food for you and your date.
You must have a general idea of what they're paying/plate based on the venue.
If it's open bar you bump it up more, since you won't be paying for drinks.

Considering she's your niece I would start at a couple hundred then go from there based on how nice the place is.

100-300

any less is too light and any more is too much imo. But depends. If you’re tony soprano. Probably 5 racks is appropriate

$ 300 to $ 500, tend to lean higher because the bride's your niece

if it's at a VFW hall or something similar you can get away with $100/$150
but at a nice place, yeah $200-$300 per couple

like Pats said, you should at least cover the Plate cost

I would say no less than $200, assuming you and spouse, GF, etc

It's probably like $100 per person for the usually good food
I'd say at minimum $300 for a couple.

ALSO..... How much did you pay to get there? If they invite you and your wife and its a 1000 milemiles away?? Lol and you gottgotta spend 2g to fund the trip? Lol kindof eats into wedding gift.

If i gotta spend $$ to get there.. gift goes down. If not.. and its family? 500ish

The greater of one extra plate or $100. If drinks are free, add that to the cost. If you bring your spouse, then it's 3 plates or $100.

don't bother going. interferes with gambling and they will only get divorced anyway. just mail a burger king gift card for 15.00 with a note saying your car broke down or some lame excuse. believe me, no one there that isn't an immediate close relative doesn't want to be there.

wow, great thread, thanks fellas. It is a "low budget" wedding so to speak, but I do not care, I love this niece and her soon to be husband is a tremendous guy. I'll hook them up,, thanks for the answers.

Big City or in BFE ? Someone in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, may expect more than someone in a very small town.

Weddings are a pain in the ass. Like Michael777 said, its gonna end up in divorce anyway. Don't go nuts. $100 is enough.
