Ezekiel Elliott was not amused by Saturday's "Zeke who?" quip from Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and thought it was "disrespectful," according to Elliott's agent.

"I didn't think it was funny and neither did Zeke -- we actually thought it was disrespectful," agent Rocky Arceneaux told ESPN on Monday afternoon.

Arceneaux said Elliott continues his contract holdout while training in Cabo San Lucas "at a great facility."

Jones answered a question about Elliott after the Cowboys' preseason game Saturday in Hawaii with "Zeke who?"

The Cowboys owner then clarified he wanted Elliott to know he was just "cracking a joke at Zeke's expense."

Jones had been asked if running back Tony Pollard, who is having a strong training camp, was the best negotiating ploy the Cowboys have in talks with Elliott, which drew his response.

Arceneaux did not reveal any details related to contract negotiations.

Elliott has yet to report to training camp and is subject to fines totaling more than $900,000 as he seeks a contract extension.

Pollard had 51 yards on the Cowboys' first drive Saturday, which ended with his 14-yard touchdown run.

"He knows exactly what to do, and he knows how to do it, so it is, he goes out there and he plays to that level," Jones said. "If he continues this through the next several weeks, he's going to be right in the middle of it early, and that will really complement what we're doing with Zeke. Not replace that. And I mean that, not replace that. Nobody's getting cute here, but it'll certainly be a great complement. ... I can picture those guys same sets at the same times out there and really giving those defenses fits."

ESPN's Todd Archer contributed to this report.

Disrespectful?

Disrespectful to have 2 years left on a "CONTRACT" and not doing your job because you want more $$ and a new contract!

I am sure that "Zeke" is such a standup guy, that if he was a terrible running back, he will sit out for a new contract that pays him less if he had years left on it.

Disagree. This isn’t baseball man. Football is a cutthroat business and they will cut you in the blink of an eye if you don’t live up to expectations, regardless of if you have years left or not. Owners can do that, but players have to stick to the contract? Doesn’t make much sense, does it?

I know you’re going to say..... “But mobbbbb they don’t do that for any other profession in life.” Well they give fully guaranteed money in the NBA and in Baseball. Injuries are high but if a player has out performed his contract....should be able to negotiate. I don’t want to hear this, “you have two years left so you should play it out.” Nah fuck that. This is the NFL man

Zeke who? Jerry is just letting him know where he stands. Zeke can choose to sit out the next two years, one upping Bell

Belichick would have traded him last year

NFLPA has agreed to the way in which contracts are negotiated. If they as a union agreed to this, I have no sympathy for Zeke. And I'm a huge Cowboys fan.

Don't sign the contract then, it's that simple. Like so many other MOBsters would rather get section 8 housing, food stamps and free medical while selling crack on the corner and then have another brother shoot them and blame it on whitey.

Make all contracts 1 year deals with performance based incentives. Problem solved.

But, the players union would never go for that.

I don't have an issue with him wanting more money. Problem for him is the position just doesn't warrant it. Draft a rb in the 3rd round and bring in a solid vet and the rb epa won't look much different.

2019 is final year of Elliott's initial four year deal. Fifth season is a club option. He quite sensibly has been asking since January for a renewal&extension

Unlike the other three major U.S. sports he could possibly suffer a career-ending injury between now and February so it is smart business for him to demand the extension now. If Cowboys let him sit all year and walk he very likely gets at least the $25m guaranteed that Le'veon Bell scored and possibly more.

Or Cowboys could write him the deal now and lock him in for 2019-2023. It will be interesting to see what they decide in next ten days because no Zeke means playoffs unlikely for 2019

If he chooses to not play this season he will in fact be fully complying with terms of the contract which states failure to report equals zero salary for 2019 and qualifying as a FA in February unless club exercises option for the $9.9m fifth season

He’s coming back I think. But definitely some internal issues there.

Urp....I overlooked Cowboys did exercise optlon for fifth year...So his story a bit different than Bell. All aside he is smart to demand the extension now as his risk of career ending injury is now doubled

It's hard to blame the players or the owners in some cases. This is one of them.

Can't blame Elliot. Running Backs careers have a short shelf life. He is really really good and probably worth more then he is being paid. He signed a contract, but really had no choice. The rookie contracts or whatever might have been signed by the players union. But Zeke wasn't at the bargaining table and probably wasn't even in the league yet. The only argument is then "he didn't have to go to the NFL, play somewhere else". Lets get real , thats not a real option.

So he is being badly underpaid at a punishing position with a short life span. Hard to blame him for holding out.

On Jerry Jones side, if he pays Zeke a lot of money he has less to pay the other players. Zeke is still under contract , some of the others aren't. He doesn't want to pay Elliot unless he has too. So Elliot is trying to make him "have too"

It's a stalemate.

It's not a stalemate. Zeke agreed to his "rookie" contract. I'm sure he was elated at the time. He joined the players union when he did so. When one joins a union they agree to the settlements the union makes. There are a lot of players who are really happy that the union is representing them. Zeke was. Now he isn't.

Jerry Jones should play hardball. Report under your present contract or sit out. Jones was right when he said there was a guy named Tony Pollard who is now playing on his rookie contract who would be really happy to be the starting running back for the Dallas Cowboys at the money he signed for.

And Pollard would likely be very good behind that big offensive line.

Belichick has reset the standard for running backs in this league. I'm sure Jerry Jones has noticed if no one else has.

.

What would make you say he was happy to be represented by the union when he was drafted, when he was a rookie, or anytime for that matter. Once upon a time top picks made huge money as there was no limit on their contracts, that all changed about 10 years ago when the bargained to severly limit what rookies can make, I think Sam Bradford was the last huge rookie deal. Pretty much all of the rookies get screwed nowadays compared to yesteryear. That was bargained in when Elliot was probably about 10 years old. Most agree the owners got one over on the PA that deal.

When he joins the NFL it's not like he gets to check off whether he wants to be part of the union or not. Rookies really have no choice , other then just not playing in the NFL. Which kind of isn't much of an option. Elliot is now choosing that option hoping to get more money. Sure he signed a contract, and as it should be, if he doesn't play he won't get paid his salary. It's not like he playing for another team.
