Nine flights have been cancelled Tuesday at Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO), the majority of them due to Hurricane Dorian, according to flight tracking website FlightAware.
As the Category 3 storm crawls toward on the United States mainland, air travel through the country’s southeast has been impacted. Orlando International Airport and Fort Lauderdale International Airport are among several Florida airports that suspended operations starting Monday.
According to FlightAware, the airlines with the most Tuesday cancellations between the U.S. and Costa Rica are JetBlue and Spirit with four each.
Both JetBlue and Spirit fly daily between San José (Alajuela) and the Florida cities of Fort Lauderdale and Orlando.
Southwest also cancelled a Tuesday flight between SJO and Fort Lauderdale.
Fort Lauderdale International Airport (FLL) is expected to reopen Tuesday afternoon, while Orlando International Airport does not have an expected time to resume operations. Miami International Airport (MIA) has remained open.
Most U.S. airlines are waiving change fees and offering additional flexibility to travelers impacted by Hurricane Dorian. Check with your airline to make changes and for current flight information.
