I'm not sayin VT will lose to Furman, However, I can see this being a struggle. I have the game coming in VT 44-20. I had the ODU game at 41-21, VT couldn't break 31. Furman runs the triple option which has given Bud Foster nightmares for a decade with Paul Johnson. VT has had some tremendous defenses that have struggled against the option. This years defense is horrible. The Juco DT's are just warm bodies, the Mike is slow and runs to the wrong place. There is a safety playing Corner. Recruiting since Beamer retired has been lacking. It's starting to show up now. VT has missed on the DL badly, it started to show last year now it's a full blown hemorrhage. Stopping or slowing the option requires penetration at the POA and extreme discipline from the LB's. corners and safeties. VT has nothing on the DL to penetrate with, they have shown no pass rush. The LB's are over playing trying to make up for poor DL play. The corners and safeties are prone to fill with run support, leaving receivers running free. Furman will get 3-4 shots down field to wide open receivers, all the QB has to do is just throw it up and get close to the receiver, obviously he has to catch it.

Furman and Georgia State had a war last week, 48-42, unusual for an option team. The same Georgia State that whipped Tenn at home 38-30 in week 1.

If Furman plays mistake free, Willis will find a way to fumble or throw a pick. Obviously Playing Furman on the ML, is a long shot. However I'd tease the over down to 57. The spread is VT -21.5, I'd move that up to -28.5 and make VT work to cover that number, ie. take Furman and +28.5. If VT comes out flat, Furman will give them all they want for 60 mins. That option can strangle teams that start slowly.

I'm a Purple Paladin...lol

They're well coached and a solid team. If they play well and the O can control the clock keeping the D off the field for long periods of time, they'll cover easily...

Good luck on you play(s) and have a great week...

I agree with you 100% on this play. The line is way too high & I give Furman at least a 65% chance of winning outright.

Great post.
I have noticed Codemaker provides good information in his write ups, and I usually have a lot of confidence in his rationale.
WOW, in this case it was so powerful that I went with Furman, BIG, based on his write up, it sure seems he is very well informed on VT, and it paid off.
No, I will not follow all of his recomendations, but when a poster is this well informed on a game or a team, and this detailed, he is doing all of us a great service.
Summary: Virginia Tech is NOT Virginia Tech, anymore.
