Wow just a couple weeks ago he said he was doing fine and everything looked fine. Now the tumors have come back and starting chemotherapy again. Wish him well.

Your weight is by far, and you don't have to be Vegan to be at a healthy weight. The only reason vegans get less cancer, just 15 to 20 % less BTW, is because they don't tend to be obese and you're comparing it to the rest of the population.

If you compare vegans to the rest of the population and adjust for BMI, the difference is cancer rates is statistically insignificant. Alex Trebek was never obese, and vegans get cancer too

BMI is bullshit.

Skinny doesn't mean healthy.

I'm just citing medical studies. This is not a topic I can cite 1st hand knowledge and experience. And I agree, just because you're skinny doesn't mean you're healthy. However, overall, skinny people are healthier than obese people.

There are exceptions to every rule, and there are a bunch more variables in play too

These stats are basically useless. Vegan, keto, no sugar diet, whatever the fad is, the stats will never have enough sample size to be equivalent to the population sample size of cancer.

As someone is is very close to cancer and its fight, Im telling you the causes of it lead with Genes/Heredity, Enviromental, and then you get to a slough of options for number 3.

nutrition and diet are very different. vegan is great but done improperly can have some serious vitamin deficiencies. people in general do not focus on nutrition. they eat low grade meat and processed foods with lots of chemicals and hormones in them. skinny doesnt mean healthy at all however i do believe there is no such thing as fat but healthy.

i do believe diet plays an important role in heart disease and diabetes but when it comes to cancer im just not sure. so many different types that attack different parts of the body, its a complex disease that literally every knows someone affected by. prayers to alex trebek, sad to see his health decline after it had temporarily improved.

You are absolutely correct that diet/nutrion play a part in heart disease and diabetes, that is proven by so many reports and studies. Cancer though is not. Give colon cancer for example, if say your dad has it and its found at age 40, they will recommend kids to start get testing at 30 or even younger to detect it early enough to hopefully still be a polyp.

Totally agree about other variables, but I was addressing a comment about " the variables we can control", not cancer overall.

Good luck with everything

It's not complete BS, as in

20-24.9 is optimal
25-29.9 is overweight
Over 30 is obese

It's just a partial answer. If your number is 40, you're definitely obese, under 20, you're clearly underweight

It's that 25-35 range which is too variable to call so broadly

It also seems to not allow any difference for gender, I think given a man and woman of equal height, the man should be allowed to weigh more.
BMI is okay for a start, but far from perfect

While a healthy diet is not harmful, cancer is more heredity and environmental.
Like I stated before. It's the single most important thing you can control. Inherited cancer genes only make up 5-10 % of cancers. Cancer is cellular mitosis, mutation of the cells. Cancer thrives and lives in an acidic environment. That's why you need to alkaline your body and diet. Alkalinity will purify and cleanse the blood.

Okay, then how do alkinize your body, Shub ?

This thread sure took a turn, I hope Alex recovers but realistically he lived a full life and I hope he either recovers or dies quickly, languishing in pain for a year or two is terrible.

79 ain't bad !

I don't fear death, it's inevitable, I'll be fine with 73, 68, whatever, I know it won't be 80+

Today would be a good day to die !

By eating real food. Fruits, vegetables, herbs, nuts and seeds. Quit meat, dairy and all processed foods. Eat a raw diet. When you bring heat to food you are messing up the molecular structure, destroying digestive enzymes and losing 50-100 of the nutrional value. The whole point of eating is to gain energy, minerals, vitamins andto hydrate. Everytime you eat a piece food it creates a metabolic ash, it's either acid forming or akaline. Too much acidity and you have acidosis, where all the problems start. Eating crappy food creates a mucus thats designed to protect your body. That mucus gets hard and creates blockages in the body. This deprives the body and organs of oxygen, which is the root of all disease.

Shub, you're in Maryland,...you sound a lot like a vegetarian nut in Orange County, California, ala Railbird !

How long do you think you're going to live Shub ?

I'm, the best way to go is not smoke tobacco, drink excessively, use drugs beyond Marijuana, etc.

Eat a varied diet including red meat, fish, poultry, lots of fruit, I'm not huge on veggies , but will certainly eat them
