Dishwasher. I wanted to be a waiter but I didn't have any experience so they told me if I washed dishes for a few months then I could switch to being a waiter. Ended up washing dishes for 3 months one summer then the place closed down, never got to wait any tables.

Brief stint working at Walmart in the toy department. The manager was just a total dick and made us rearrange the warehouse almost every day. He’d want shit stacked and situated over there one day to only have it rearranged the next and then back to where it was in the first place. Think I was there maybe 2 weeks before I just no call no show. I remember feeling uncomfortable every morning when they’d have the morning rally how everyone would fake clap and go Ra Ra Ra and I’m like you all on fuckin’ crack or something?

In HS, during the summer I got a job with AZ Dept of Transportation. That job sucked ass.

90% of the time they would send me out on the interstate with a weed eater. Job was to clear out all the weeds and brush from the guard rails. AZ with the hot sun working on and near asphalt was no bueno. People throw shit at you too when they buzz by.

If I wasn't 100% sure I was going to college before that job, that experience sealed it for me.

Removed a dead deer from a pool that had been under the cover all winter. Once we got it out of the pool it just started to fall apart and the smell made me toss my cookies all over the yard. .

This was about 1970. I took a job at a printed circuit board company. They paid around $100 a week and I was living at home at the time. I had to dip the circuit boards in an acid that removed corrosion before they installed components on the boards like capacitors, resistors and transistors. There were several types of chemical washes in the plant. When I came home my clothes smelled like sulphuric acid. I lasted there for about a week before my parents made me quit. Probably was for the best. I imagined most people who worked there had early deaths from cancer. There was no OSHA back then. So if you got cancer from working in a place like that you said OSHIT.

Tang factory, 5pm to 3am shift. Being covered in powder for 10 hours really sucked. You end up breathing that shit in. Best part was coming home to shower. Blowing out all the orange snots, and getting all that powder off my skin.

While I was in college, I worked on pipe lines during three summers. I was on scholarship
in school but working 7 days a week and 11 hours a day provided good money for a college
kid. One summer in Wisconsin, I stacked skids (railroad crossties) to put the pipe on for
welding...hard work but kept me in shape for football. The other two summers (Louisiana
and Alabama) I worked as a welder's helper...piece of cake compared to the skid gang.
