- A bomb threat called in to LSU's Tiger Stadium on Saturday night is being reported as an attempt to stop a losing bet on LSU's matchup with Florida.
- LSU ended up winning the game, 42-28, and covering for most bettors who took the spread at -13.5 or less.
It was quickly determined that the call came in from a student at the University of Alabama, who was then arrested on Sunday morning. Officers at Tiger Stadium immediately swept the stadium during the game to find no actual threat.
Which brings us to the reason for the student’s call.
As first reported by WBRZ, police said that following his arrest, 19-year-old Connor Croll admitted he was attempting to stop the game because his friend had placed a big bet on it.
While it’s not clear which side of the game his friend bet, a slight majority of tickets were on LSU as a 13.5/14-point favorite, and for much of the game, the Tigers were unable to pull away from Florida, even going down 28-21 in the third quarter.
Of course, LSU capped off the game with 21 unanswered points and a goal-line stand, covering the spread for most bettors who were anywhere inside the two-touchdown mark.
Croll is now being held without bond, but can only stay jailed in Tuscaloosa for 14 days before being extradited back to Louisiana.
