I discovered the same thing with my mother a couple of years ago...43 years of paying a fee for landline telephone wiring protection,and also the phone thing..I was so disappointed in her,and told her if your phone don't work you simply tell them come and fix it or you will not have landline phone anymore,and if you need a phone you can buy one for 20.00 or so...I feel the same way for people that rent modems and routers from internet companies...Purchase your own for maybe 200.00 bucks and save the 10.00 per month they charge you...I bought both over 10 years ago and never had a problem with either...
