GOODNESS, TEN. Where to start. Obviously "D" did their job, but Mariota & that oline. Taylor Lewan was supposed to be a boon, but he's in preseason form rt now. Sad performance by TEN "O", but this shows that Fangio finally has his "D" playing to his level. Rest of plays saved the day, w/Teaser remaining hot. Back from vacation, so hopefully things settle down. And w/that, here’s a GOY.
Regular Season POW 2-4, Teasers 6-0, GOY 0-0, Overall 17-10
JAX -4 is on a 2 gm skid & what better tonic for that than the Bungles. I’m sure Zac Taylor is a good coach, but as not only a rookie HC, but a very young one, calling the “O” on gameday plus managing the team cannot be a recipe for success. And their 0-6 record proves that. Even the greatest coaches rely on their coordinators so that they can focus on time & player management. Speaking of players, CIN will be down 5 reg starters, including both corners. W/Kirkpatrick & Jackson down, only 4 healthy CBs will be available Sunday. That is good news for JAX WRs, who struggled last wk against the resurgent NOR “D”. Both Fournette & Minshew Mania were stifled in a 13-6 loss @ hm. You should see a drastic improvement this wk @ CIN, where CIN is 0-2 SU & ATS, by a whopping 31 pts ATS (vs 3-1 ATS on the rd). For some reason, CIN struggles @ hm. Oppositely JAX has been fairly good on the rd, losing tight ones @ CAR & HOU, & stealing 1 @ DEN where it is very difficult to play. So CIN has been competitive, but only on the rd, & even then, they were blown out by PIT, let 1 get away @ SEA in Wk 1, & caught BAL & BUF off guard w/spirited efforts there. JAX will be focused here since they’re on a 2 gm losing streak, but are still only 2 gms behind South leader HOU. They cannot afford to lose here. W/the distraction of Jalen Ramsey gone, the team can now focus on the task @ hand & solidify roles moving forward. On CIN’s side, Cordy Glenn, their starting LT, was suspended by the team for this gm & reportedly wants out from the team. Talk behind the scenes also paints a picture of an unhappy AJ Green. This cannot help an 0-6 team, w/all kinds of backups starting, & a very young coaching staff. I believe that Minshew struggled last wk also because of a lack of a TE. Losing O’Shaughnessy the wk before, & then Swaim during the NOR gm, really messed up this “O”. DeFilippo’s “O” relies heavily on TEs, & most rookie QBs do as well. 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] pick Josh Oliver could be a major sleeper here. Suffering a major hamstring injury in preseason, he’s finally a full go & it couldn’t come @ a better time for JAX & Minshew. As rookies, they’re very close so there’s familiarity, plus they practiced a lot together on the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] unit when Foles was still healthy. Oliver is 6’5, 250 & ran a 4.6/40. Very athletic. He won’t be Gronk in his 1[SUP]st[/SUP] NFL gm after missing most of the yr, but there’s huge potential. W/CIN’s injuries, personnel & coaching issues, woeful hm performances thus far, combined w/JAX’s motivation & focused “D”, has me believing JAX wins here by a healthy margin. Dede Westbrook made the trip to CIN, so hopefully he plays opposite Chark & Conley against this razor thin secondary.
