WASHINGTON (AP) — Responding to stinging criticism, President Donald Trump on Saturday abruptly reversed his plan to hold the next Group of Seven world leaders' meeting at his Doral, Florida, golf resort next year.
Trump announced a rare backtrack Saturday night after facing accusations that he was using the presidency to enrich himself by hosting the international summit at a private resort owned by his family.
"Based on both Media & Democrat Crazed and Irrational Hostility, we will no longer consider Trump National Doral, Miami, as the Host Site for the G-7 in 2020," Trump tweeted. He said his administration "will begin the search for another site, including the possibility of Camp David, immediately."
The striking reversal raises further doubts about the position of the president's acting chief of staff, Mick Mulavney, who held a press conference Thursday announcing the choice of Doral for the summit. He insisted his staff had concluded it was "far and away the best physical facility." Mulvaney said the White House reached that determination after visiting 10 sites across the country.
In the same press conference, Mulvaney acknowledged a quid pro quo was at work when Trump held up U.S. aid to Ukraine in exchange for Ukraine's investigation of Democrats and the 2016 elections. Mulvaney later claimed his comments had been misconstrued, but not before drawing the ire of the president and frustration from other senior aides.
Trump had been the first administration official to publicly float the selection of his property to host the summit when in August he mentioned it was on the short-list and praised its facilities and proximity to Miami's international airport. His comments, more than a month before the official announcement, drew instant criticism from good governance groups and Democrats, who said it raised concerns that Trump was using the White House to boost his personal finances
The vociferous criticism did not die down, even as Trump insisted he would host the summit at cost, though he refused to disclose financial details. The annual heads-of-state gathering would at minimum have provided good-will value to his property.
Noah Bookbinder, executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, said Trump's reversal Saturday "is a bow to reality, but does not change how astonishing it was that a president ever thought this was appropriate, or that it was something he could get away with."
An hour before Trump's announcement, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden condemned the selection of Doral for the summit. "Hosting the G7 at Trump's hotel? A president should never be able to use the office for personal gain," the former vice president said.
On Thursday, Mulvaney had discounted Camp David, the government-owned presidential retreat, as the site for the summit, claiming, "I understand the folks who participated in it hated it and thought it was a miserable place to have the G-7." He added that it was too small and remote for the international summit.
Mulvaney said then that unspecified sites in Hawaii and Utah had also been on the short list. It was unclear if they were still under consideration.

[h=1]Pelosi explains what she was saying to Trump in viral photo: 'All roads lead to Putin'[/h] By Mike Lillis - 10/17/19 01:22 PM EDT 1,495

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Thursday she was delivering a simple message to President Trump as she stood and departed a contentious White House meeting the previous day: "At that moment, I was probably saying, 'All roads lead to Putin.'"
The picture of Pelosi standing opposite the president as she prepared to leave the Wednesday meeting quickly went viral, after Trump tweeted it out and Pelosi's office later made it the cover photo of her own Twitter account. In the picture, Pelosi is the only woman at the table, the only person standing opposite a seated row of men.

Pelosi has long speculated about the possible link between Trump and the Russian president, Vladimir Putin. Democrats investigating Trump had initially focused their attention on the president's suspected role in Russia's 2016 election meddling.

The impeachment inquiry has since shifted to focus on Trump's dealings with Ukraine, but there's a Russia link in that investigation, too, as Democrats are seeking to learn why administration officials had pressed Ukrainian leaders to open an investigation into debunked theories that Ukraine — not Russia — was behind the 2016 election interference. The U.S. intelligence community has concluded that Moscow was behind the hacking.
The White House had called the gathering Wednesday to discuss Trump's recent decision to pull U.S. troops out of northern Syria, in the process abandoning the Kurdish troops who have fought alongside the United States for years. The exodus of U.S. troops essentially greenlighted an offensive by Turkish forces, who quickly stormed into the region.

"That has nothing to do with us," Trump said Wednesday, dismissing the conflict that ensued following the troops' exit.

Wednesday's White House meeting came just hours after the House had passed a resolution condemning Trump's Syria decision by an overwhelming vote of 354-60 — a rare display of Trump's Republican allies rebuking the president.

Pelosi on Thursday provided a few more details about the contentious gathering, saying she told Trump that he was, in fact, breaking his campaign-trail promise to bring the troops home, since the Pentagon has said it will send thousands of new troops to Saudi Arabia following the Syria decision.

"If the president is saying, 'I said during the campaign I was going to take the troops home,' then is home Saudi Arabia?" Pelosi asked Thursday.

Pelosi also accused the president of pulling the troops from Syria without articulating a strategy afterwards.

"What is the plan for fighting ISIS now that we have reneged on our handshake with the Kurds to do our fighting for us there?" she said.

Trump and the Republicans have disputed the reasons given by Pelosi and other Democratic leaders for the Democrats leaving Wednesday's meeting prematurely.

In response, Pelosi floated the notion that future meetings should be recorded, so the public can know what transpired.

"I think it would be interesting — you tell me — if we could have a recording of what goes on in those offices," Pelosi said. "Because they come out and say, 'Oh this happened, and that happened.' And you're like, 'We must have been at two different meetings because that didn't happen.'"

Trump Canceled G-7 At Doral In Response To Republicans' Wavering Support: Report

Sanjana Karanth,HuffPost 1 hour 22 minutes ago

President Donald Trump reportedly decided to reverse plans to hold the Group of Seven summit at his Florida golf resort after Republicans told him they would not be able to support his decision.
GOP lawmakers told Trump they would not be able to defend his plan to host the gathering of global leaders at his own property in Doral, especially after having to face questions regarding his ties with Ukraine and his decision to pull U.S. troops from Syria, The Wall Street Journal and the New York Times reported Sunday.
The White House did not immediately respond to HuffPost’s request for comment. The president on Sunday afternoon suggested he decided not to hold G-7 at Doral because of Democrats and the news media.
On Thursday, White House acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney told reporters that Trump planned to host next year’s G-7 summit at the Trump National Doral, dismissing concerns that the president would personally profit by holding a political event at the resort near Miami. The announcement brought bipartisan backlash from people who felt the move is inappropriate, corrupt and probably illegal.
Trump is the sole beneficiary of a trust that now owns the Trump Organization family business, which means hosting the summit at the resort would have likely given Trump millions of dollars. Holding the event at the property would have violated at least one of the Constitution’s emolument clauses.
Two days after Mulvaney’s announcement, Trump changed his mind, and blamed the news media and Democrats in a string of tweets for criticizing the move too much.
Trump’s decision to reverse the G-7 announcement comes amid wavering support from his own political party. The president currently faces a House impeachment inquiry led by Democrats.
White House aides reportedly told Trump that his plans to discuss foreign policy at the summit would be overshadowed by the controversy of the location. Republicans also called the White House after Mulvaney’s press conference Thursday to complain that the chief of staff’s comments effectively admitting to holding military aid to Ukraine made it extremely difficult to defend the president, according to the Journal.
At his presser last week, Mulvaney said that military aid to Ukraine was delayed partly because Trump wanted the country’s officials to look into a security company hired by the Democratic National Committee that found that Russia had hacked the DNC’s server in 2016.
“That’s why we held up the money,” Mulvaney said in a description that effectively admitted a quid pro quo, telling reporters: “We do that all the time. … Get over it.” The question of a quid pro quo is at the center of the House impeachment inquiry into Trump.
The acting chief of staff tried to walk back his comments on “Fox News Sunday” with Chris Wallace, but the television appearance ended up backfiring when Mulvaney said that Trump “still considers himself to be in the hospitality business” in an effort to defend the president’s decision to host the G-7 summit at Doral.
The comments only caused further concern that Trump is using the highest office in the U.S. to further his business interests.

Sorry, Im not a screenwriter, or a producer, and have never lived in any of the places he has.

But, unlike you, I DONT HAVE to make up random insults. Thinking about going to your next court date, taking a video, and posting it on youtube for the world to see. Maybe I should also notify some of the news stations or reporters here in Vegas about what you do... You know, steal houses from Veterans, and houses from Veterans widows.... The frivolous lawsuits.... Bet they would love to do an investigative story about you. WHICH I can easily prove.

BUT, since YOU NEVER DID ANY OF THIS.... Can I post the links to the court cases and documents (all from .gov websites) showing how big of a piece of shit that person is?

(This is the part where you make up false insults and deflect like a good little low IQ liberal crook who lives off the taxpayer dime)

and if in the future I found myself walking towards him I could immediately make a u-turn and
get as far away as possible.

What's the matter, Roman, you didn't answer why Twittler backed down. For that matter, how come Mullvaney made the worst "walk back" of all time by saying there was no quid pro quo when clearly he admitted that there was? Yuck it UP, Boulder Head.
