Not a dealer of any sort, I don't want to deal with you!

Describe what you have, I'll tell you what it is reasonably worth and alert you to the unlikely event of a rare date .

I'm expert at US coins, decent at US paper money and not very good at foreign coins, nota total idiot, but far from an expert

I know very little about stamps and even less about sports cards..

USA coins, I'm your man !

1851 Large Cent.

Assuming average circulated condition... about $5 or so , it's nothing remarkable, it's from the end of the era of large cents which ended in 1857, not a rare date, plenty of them survived, not a whole lot of demand exists for them.

Half cent coins from that time frame are much more valuable

The Lincoln cent is by far the most common coin in the world, the mint produces like 7-10 billion annually !

I can't believe they still even produce these !

Open the roll,I can just about guarantee you that all 50 coins will be dated from 1940- 1958

Lincoln was born in1809, got whacked about 1863, put his (__&__) on the cent in 1909

Wheatback cents are so common they aren't sold by the roll, they are traded by the bag

A bag is 5,000 coins or $50 face value, about 38 lbs if memory serves

My guess is a dealer that even wants to bother with this might pay $125 a bag and sell at like $225
It's not a very shippable item.

If you buy it as a dealer, you have to be able to resell it

A bag of 90% silver coins is $1,000 face value, which gets pretty pricey, often sold in smaller lots...

Fire away gentlemen, I'm up to it

I have a book of mercury dimes in my attic. No 1916-D or 1921 or 1926-S. Collected coins as a kid and have an extensive Irish & English collection. Sold most of my gold coins over the years so everything is probably not worth too much but I have always taken pleasure at viewing fine collections.

A 26-s dime in average circulated condition is no big deal, like $15-20 or so, no good idea on Irish stuff.

The Smithsonian museum has some awesome stuff as does the ANA in Colorado springs

Why do you like coins?

Excellent question !

I guess you say I like money and history, coins kind of combine both in a way.

I can have a coin that might have been in Abe Lincoln's pocket.

The coins from a century or so ago were also very artistic, unlike today

It's long overdue to cancel the one cent coin, like Canada did years ago
Nickels could go to, but one step at a time

Nickels, dimes and quarters only

Kill the $1 Bill as well and use the billions of dollar coins in storage forever, $2 bills are still being produced.

The smallest bill in Canada is a five, they have $1 and $2 coins, known as a Loony and a twony, no stupid pennies
Strippers and cocktail waitresses would love having $2 as the smallest denomination

Just round transactions to the nearest nickel for cash purchases, anything electronic can be done to the cent, it will all even out

If you're a typical American you have a container or maybe a big ass water bottle with hundreds or thousands of zinc pennies, it's madness

Many people just throw them away. It's insane to manufacture like 10 billion of them annually...at a hefty loss

When did the modern era of paper money begin, right after the civil war? Some of those bills from the turn of the last century are really stunning, especially the Running Antelope five dollar silver certificate.

How long were bank notes used for? I see a lot of 1902 series and 1929 series on ebay. Would like to pick up a local bank one.
