Auburn -23

Coaching mismatch as former Alabama coach Mark Gottfried continues his slide into the ranks of coaching irrelevancy. The Matadors play defense just as their nickname would suggest with opponents hitting over half their shots. CSUN has played 3 games with an average margin of defeat of 19.

Rhode Island +2 -120

Lewis is obviously good and Shackleford is legit as well, but Alabama has a track record of struggling on the road. Oats’ new system calls for a high volume of 3’s and I am not sold on Bama’s ability to consistently hit the 3 ball, particularly with virtually no inside game. Rhode Island has 5 starters back and with the friendly price at home, I am willing to back them despite their suspect shooting.

UAB -7.5

It will take a while to get a good feel on this year’s UAB squad, but this is a play against the other side. Brand new coach trying to assimilate a lot of transfers. The Wolverines have won a couple of scrimmages against no one we have ever heard of and dropped a 12 point decision to what appears to be a weak Denver squad. Their is no rivalry in any sense here—seems much more important for the Blazers to get a solid home win.

Indy- thanks. Hope you and your tennis game are doing well. The USTA has changed our format and screwed us in the process.

Jackson State+22

SMU plays slower and is not a blow you out kind of team. Like a lot of teams, they are assimilating new faces and should be better in a few weeks than they are now. Jackson State should have enough scoring punch to stay within this number.

Arkansas-16.5

Razorbacks are excelling on the defensiv while Montana is struggling to break 60. The Grizzlies don’t have a lot of scoring options which should allow Arkansas to hound Pridgett. Arkansas needs more consistency on offense, so the under may be a viable play as well. Thankfully for the Arkansas faithful, football has a bye week so the fans can pack Bud Walton and back a winner.

ODU +3.5

The Monarchs are a grinding defensive minded squad and will keep this game at a much slower tempo than Northeastern would prefer. Northeastern is a good offensive team, but they are not playing defense of any substance. Points are a bonus—Monarchs should win outright.

Indy, you playing at La Quinta or somewhere else?

Illinois State-1.5

UCF’s roster from last year’s entertaining team was completely gutted and now they go to Illinois to play a team that focuses on the defensive end. The Redbirds are doing the little things better than the Golden Knights at the moment—less turnovers, better 3 point shooting, and free throw shooting. Ex- Bama player Dazon Ingram being a leader for UCF also gives me pause.

Ball State-2

Neutral site game. Ball State tries to play defense, ISU does not, at least to this point. Yeah I know they played Louisville and Dayton, but still.

Arizona-12

NMSU simply has too many injuries to overcome. Their road trip to UTEP highlighted that fact.

Richmond-14

Lets fade the Matadors again. Gottfried will probably miss the game because he is looking for a coed to bang.

Thanks Indy. Hope you have a winning night
Furman+5
Not understanding the big move on Bama considering the issues exposed last game. Liked Furman at 3 so have to pull the trigger at 5. A site I respect is holding number at 4 and I usually do well playing along with them.

Indy, I apologize for the disastrous night. Never let my dumb ass get you off a winner. I will say Alabama still has issues—22 turnovers. If They had not shot so well from the field—51%- I am not sure they win.

yTD 10-6

Chattanooga +21

Looking at NKY, BC, and UCSB.

St. Louis -22.5

Hopefully the Billikens will want to come out strong to erase the sting of the Seton Hall drubbing. Tubby Smith is now the coach at High Point and he either really likes coaching or he really likes getting checks. Hard to believe his descent. HP has yet to be competitive and are fresh off the 39 point blow out at Belmont. These guys are shooting 31% on the year so it will take a monumental effort or a St. Louis no show to stay within the number.

YTD 10-8

on an 0-5 tear. I will say St. Louis went straight into point shaving once they got up by 24.

BC +2

Depaul is off a to a hot start and the big win at Iowa makes this game look like easy pickings. We all know how hard it is to win on the road in college basketball, much less do it consistently game after game. I am not ready to annoint DePaul yet. They are shooting 53% from the field, but at some point they will start coming back down to earth and the road is a likely starting point. Their Achilles heel is at the foul line where they are under 60%. I am going to forgive BC’s uninspiring performance against EWU and wager they will defend the home court today.

Elon- pick

After 3 drubbings at the hands of Georgia Tech, Michigan, and UNC the Phoenix get an opponent at home in their own weight class. Manhattan’s stat profile is underwhelming—25 % from 3, 38% overall, commit lots of fouls and haven’t played the schedule Elon has. Elon actually led UNC at the break so today seems like the time for them to break into the win column.

Iona -10

The Gaels are playing like absolute shit so far launching bricks from everywhere. Could have covered yesterday if they weren’t shooting free throws with their eyes closed. Still they are one of the favorites in the MAAC and will start playing better at some point, right. Kennesaw State is the team to make it happen. All 4 losses by double digits, including yesterday’s 31 point loss to Monmouth. They are hitting 32% overall and 21% from 3 so if Iona can’t cover today, they never will.

Get it.

Does point shaving still exist?

Probably not, but it would certainly be easy in some of these obscure games. My comment was just sarcasm in reference to St. Louis allowing a 17-0 run at home to a Big South cellar dweller. On a side note, I forgot Tubby is a High Point alum which explains his presence there.
