Assuming he stays healthy, makes every start, and throws 120 pitches per start,he will make $9,000 per pitch

Yanks really went all in on this guy at 9 / 324 or 36 a season basically forever !

They should win the division by like 12 games over TB

They are serious about #28 !

They don't need anything else, the arguably best TOR in the game surrounded by some other pretty solid starters like Severino, Tanaka, and others, owrhaos the best bullpen in the game !, And no distinct weakness offensively

107 wins maybe ?

Anything short of #28 is a failure, this is the piece they needed !

How many pitchers threw 120 pitches in the last 5 years ?

Come late August or so when the division is locked up, I wouldn't let the guy go past 6 innings/ 100 pitches or so.

You need a guy like this to win much more than a Stanton type who is easily replaced.

They should easily win the division and at least get to the WS

It's insane the money these players get. I understand it's the entertainment business but what kind of job could Cole get if there wasn't baseball. I know all about the reserve clause but think about how if the leagues were just to shut down. It's under no obligation to stay in business. The owners all get together one day and say we vote to dissolve the leagues. They pay off any contractural obligations to the cities. How about if nobody else stepped forward to start another baseball league. Some of these players could try a different sport but most can only play baseball. Obviously this is never going to happen and it's true that the owners decide what to pay baseball players but say people decide to stop watching and attending games. The ballparks are empty and league just decides to go out of business.

*Severino has two good years under his belt....may be good for more...Rays have Snell, Morton and Yarborough w stronger credentials + Chirinos, Glasnow and McKay

*Tanaka sports a pretty steady 4.40 ERA past several years and could not crack the Rays rotation

*Paxton a bit of mystery...His second half 2019 solid, the first half a disaster

*Rays 2019 bullpen was tops in the AL for both WHIP and RPG....Yankees were 5th & 6th respectively
Rays were second best bullpen in all of MLB, Yankees 13th

*Rays return their top 15 arms from 2019 including a hopeful additional 8 weeks for Snell and 15 weeks for Glasnow

Cole is a tremendous addition because without him Yankees remaining pitchers likely deliver at best a mid-league performance once again in 2020. With him they at least have a shot at getting the team ERA down near 4.00 which would be playoff contending

I just don't get how anybody can think anything less then a championship in baseball is a disappointment. Too much randomness and luck in baseball. It doesn't matter how great your team is, in a 7 game baseball series any team can win. You could let a team have an ALL STAR team for a year and they wouldn't be that favored win a World Series. They would be a lock to win 100 games since all the variables would even out. But no sure thing in the playoffs.

The better team can crush the ball for three straight games and just be hitting were the fielders are. The underdog can barely make contact but get a bunch of bloop hits, and the underdog would win.

Your description is more applicable to a one game playoff, rather than a 7 game series.

All valid observations, but over 162 games they win the division easily, may well lose a 5-7 game playoff series, but they get there with ease !

Tons of injuries last season, but they still won the division by a lot, they win again easily, Tampa is the only other decent team in the AL east

They can get away with a high team ERA because they are loaded with hitters !

There weakest is now probably back-up catcher if the lettuce leaves, Sanchez is only capable of maybe 85 games or so. Higgasgowski is not very good, center field is a tad weak, but they will resign Gardner for another year, if not Hicks will eventually return, Judge could play CF as well, it makes no difference until the playoffs start, the regular season is a mere formality
