12 years with the NYY, he hits 124 homeruns over that span

At age 35 he hits 28 bombs and has the best year of his career and a career best 74 RBIs

That just doesn't happen naturally, not at 35 !

Anybody disagree ?

It's just not possible to turn into a slugger at that age when you were basically a leadoff-type of hitter speedy center field type with a below average arm

it was the ball last year. dozens of players over achieved home run wise. balls were flying out of stadiums at a record pace and speed. verlander complained and got chastised for it. maybe it was the seams in the ball or launch angles by the batters but the game has turned into home run derby and it is boring now with either a strikeout or a home run the predominant results of every at bat.

I spoke to someone in Mlb over the summer,,, lolol,,, in June, my systems went 28-2 lololol,,, so I called him,,, lol,,, (I play unders only) and he told me they WOUND THE BALL TIGHTER,,,

in 2000-2001 they DID introduce rubber threads to the ball,,, (then removed them).

I don't buy the ball theory, only 4 guys in the league hit over 40 homeruns.

The man plays 12 seasons all with Yankees. He averages 13 HR and 57 RBIs over that entire span per 162 games.
BG is less than 6' tall and under 200 lbs, not some giant like Aaron Judge that you expect to hit 50 homeruns.

Previous career bests were 21 HR and 63 RBIs

2018 wasn't a great year, he hits .236 with 12 he and 45 RBIs in 530 at bats.

Then in 2019 last year of his contact at age 35-36, he has his season of his career with 28/74 in fewer at bats !

That smells of PED's. He hits 22.6 % of his homers in just 491 at bats. He will be about 36.5 come spring training, he probably wants another year or two more since he wasn't some superstar that made crazy money, just a decent outfielder.

What other player puts up numbers like that at 36 ?

Maybe, maybe not. I would call age 35 still the prime of his career. Does he look like he bulked up in the last year? I havent seen pictures of him but if he all of a sudden put on 20 lbs of muscle ala Barry Bonds then maybe

I looked at his recent pictures and the dude has a huge neck. Not sure it indicates steroids but maybe he does neck exercises or something

All MLB batters combined to hit 6776 home runs last year. That is up by 35% over all the other years of his career: https://www.baseball-almanac.com/hitting/hihr6.shtml

If he is using steroids, he has passed all his drug tests. Which means he would have likely been using them early in his career as well. Which means an increase in home runs is very poor evidence he is using them. He would also be facing pitchers on drugs.

A lot of famous people that have muscular bodies are on steroids. I have seen a lot of body influencers that do not look natural at all, claiming that they are not getting steroids at all.
