The best time ever to get rid of crap you'll never use, but it might return 5 years later from another relative ?

It's hilarious actually !

Make up a goody bag/box , whatever and give it your cousin, 1st X-wife or whatever !

We all have crap we will never use and probably will never use. I have stuff that I have no idea what it is intended to even do, and no idea how I own it now !

Clear out your garbage now and stuff the stockings with Aunt Freda's fruitcake.

who started this charade of gift giving. and who gives gifts to their grandparents. they don't even know who you are. i would bet you could not find any grandparents who could name all their grandchildren, how old they are, where they live or go to school. unless they have money and you are in line to get some of it why would a grandchild give two petunias about them.

A tad harsh perhaps ?

I'm not Joe Christmas or Christmas Snow from 3's Company, but not that cynical

maybe a little on the harsh side. there are people who actually like their relatives beyond their immediate family. however, there aren't many kids who cherish and can't wait to go visit their grandparents. once they hit 16 or so and are not forced to go they don't. i can hear the convo now. "ok kids, time to get ready to go visit gramma and grampa. kids groan and roll their eyes. we were just there last week and there's nothing to do there. they have a cathode ray tv and it smells funny there. that's old people smell kids and you're going. just don't hug grampa to tightly. he has joe biden syndrome.

you've watched too many family sitcoms. just telling it like it really is. a lot of play acting goes on with spending time with relatives. you have to be on your guard not to say anything offensive so most don't say much at all when with them. all you talk about is what happened years ago. nothing current.

I'm glad I don't look at life that way !

When I was like 16-17 , I'd drive 20 miles to my grandma's house to mow her lawn then take her grocery shopping, she had enough money, but gave me $5, it's about family not money...I sure wasn't doing that for money, it was a famial obligation, the lawn mowing could have easily been hired out, but the contact with a real person, a grandson to boot was priceless and irreplaceable to her

you're a good person and i am an ungrateful lout. no disputing that but i have my reasons. this isn't it but in the 70's there was a tv show called "family". the son "willie" (gary frank) was infatuated with his grandmother who knew every detail of his life which he embraced. (in a later episode she ended up leaving all her money to him) it just seemed so unrealistic to me even at the time that a grandson would be that close to his grandmother.

I valued my elders, which was where all my relatives are ,my mom be was 43 and dad 45 when I was accidentally born ?

Both of my grand father's died beft I was even born.

It was both a please and a duty to help out my maternal grandmother, I've done some bad things in my life, that's one of my higher points.... driving my Dodge Dart 20 miles and mowing My Grandmother's lawn then going to the grocery store with her, priceless memories, she barely spoke English:think2:
