The XFL is here starting the weekend of February 8-9th. Eight teams and a 10 game regular season schedule plus playoffs. With the likes of the Seattle Dragons, DC Defenders, St. Louis BattleHawks and Tampa Bay Vipers - how can we go wrong?

Some interesting rules for the new league including:
. Three non-kick options after scoring a touchdown:
1 point scrimmage play from the 2 yard line
2 point scrimmage play from the 3 yard line
3 point scrimmage play from the 10 yard line
. Double-forward pass
teams will be able to attempt two forward passes on the same play, so long as the ball never crosses the line of scrimmage before the second pass
. One foot in-bounds on pass completions like college football
. Game clock will continue to run even after incomplete passes or players go out of bounds except inside of two minutes in each half.
. If a game goes into overtime - each team will get five single-play possessions from the 5 yard line (like an NHL shootout)

Salaries are capped but each player on the winning teams each week gets an extra incentive bonus. Players should be motivated for the winner's bonus, Hey, maybe we'll see the likes of Johnny Manziel and Antonio Brown again.

Sounds interesting, I'll probably watch a few games just to get my fix in.

I wonder what the incentive bonus will be for the refs...

From what I hear they’re players with criminal records won’t be allowed to participate. It’s geared towards the fans. I wouldn’t be surprised if it succeeds as NFL refs are pure shit and run by the NFL.

As with the now defunct Association of American Football (AAF) from last year - look for low scoring games in the early going of the new XFL (starts this weekend). Offenses are more complex to run than defenses and will likely take at least a few games to develop. Plus this league has a running game clock. May not be the NFL but the betting money is still the color green.

I think if this shit wants to catch on it better find a way to socially engineer towards offense. That's the problem with these leagues is it tends to just look like a Thursday night game between the Titans and Jags except with worse players.

If it is just your typical hard fought 20-17 football game, I don't think it'll catch on.

We need some AFL style shootouts.

First six games of the XFL are now 5-1 to the under. Despite new rules that all favor the offense, the defenses are still dominating in the early going.

This is something I've been thinking about this weekend. The XFL has been good, but the offenses will hold this league back. If they figure out a way to boost scoring, it will dramatically improve the longevity of the league.
