How in the blue hell of all sites or sources is it that TMZ the least trusted authority on anything was the first to break the news? How did they get the information before anyone else that Kobe was on that helicopter and why would they have had any interest on a helicopter crash to begin with.

This is really bizarre in itself.

Celebrity stalking is what TMZ does.

They have many many inside sources to what and when celebrities move, especially in and around LA.

With TMZ having the TMZ sports website I am certain they have the same type of inside sources for the sports figures.

Creepy I know...but I guess when it is how you make your money...

Not only all of this, they are always accurate with their reporting. People can make fun of TMZ but they are usually first and correct. Harvey Levin has made his fortune with a great business model.

I would assume their inside sources are well compensated.

I know people who work for TMZ and if you only knew the amount of sources they have, you would swear they were a government agency! It is why you tend to see them break every big death before anyone else.

Heck the police and fire dept still wouldn't name any names or give any details hours after the news broke about Kobe. I'm sure they know, but they have procedures and can't just rush that news out. TMZ doesn't need to follow those guidelines. I'm sure whoever leaked the news to TMZ got well compensated.

I heard years ago they have great paid sources within the police, responders, and hospitals department in LA and NY that far surpass anything other media has for sources.

I'm not a fan of scandalous reporting, never looking to destroy lives or reputations so I'm not a fan of theirs. However, I wouldn't call them the "least respected". That title belongs to our entire main stream media :)

This might be another example as to why. TMZ outhustled the lazy bastards, who just wait around for someone to call in some bullshit

Like them or not, TMZ OFTEN breaks news before anyone else (if its in their genre) and RARELY (if ever) need to do retractions. You may not like the content but as far as news agencies go, they are at the top of their game.

I'm sure other major news outlets knew of this but before they can run the story, they MUST have a few reputable sources confirming.

Maybe TMZ doesnt need to have as many sources?

Even when TMZ reported this yesterday, many other major outlets were saying "unconfirmed sources"
