Under the current proposed CBA, seven teams (instead of six) from each conference will make the postseason, with only one bye (instead of two) per conference.

It would go into effect this upcoming season.

Had the playoff structure now on the table for the 2020 season been in effect this past season, the Steelers and Rams would have been in the postseason, playing on wild-card weekend.

More details:

Under the current CBA proposal that NFL owners are pushing for, the playoff field would be expanded to seven teams, while the regular season would be increased to 17 games per team, and the preseason shortened to three games per team.

Wow if true, getting the #1 seed gonna be huge now for equity. So theoretically the fav to win the conference should be higher probability and the other teams a little less. Easier for cream to rise to the top.

The game is nearly ruined already so, this is just another step in the bastardization of a once great product.

Water down the playoffs more. May see a 7 9 team or an 8 8 team. More parity.

I don’t think this totally sucks .

Better then the baseball format .

The big problem with the NFl is the 4 team divisions .

Thats way too small a number .

when you only have 4 teams in a division the odds of having at least one division with no good teams is very high.

Three 6 team divisions in each conference would be much better .

People complaining about adding another team to the playoffs increasing the odds of 7-9 and 8-8 teams making the playoffs is simply false .

In exactly 100% of the cases where a 7-9 or 8-8 team made the playoffs it was always due to the fact of having a division winner in a sucky division of 4 teams winning a division .

They could have had just 8 teams in the playoffs last season instead of 12 and if division winners get in the 8-8 eagles would have still made the playoffs .

Correction can’t have three 6 team divisions without expansion but whatever . Eight 4 team divisions just opens you up too much to the possibility there will be divisions with no good teams in any given year .

And honestly who needs divisions anyway ?

What are they for ?

Just have 2 16 team conferences and let the top 7 in each get in

If they go to a 14 team playoff, then a 16 team playoff will quickly follow. Can't have only the 1 seed getting the bye. Won't be fair. Too big of an advantage.

The owners couldn't get the 18 game season a few years ago, so they are pushing for 17 games first. Then when they get 17 games, they will start pushing for 18 games because an odd number of games doesn't make sense.

It's all about the dollars. :money8:

More teams stay in the chase for the playoffs makes for more meaningful games. I think it waters down the product.

Curious to know what the players union is thinking.

before this season started, agents were telling players to prepare for a lockout before the 2021 season. Curious if the owners are throwing a bunch of “extra shit” out there so they can come to a compromise with the players so the owners can get what they “originally wanted”
