Why is there such a large death rate in Iran?

A third person has died of the coronavirus in Italy. The number of cases is now more than 130 - the majority of them in the northern Lombardy region. The Italian prime minister has announced a quarantine on several towns, affecting 50,000 people. And the last few days of the Venice Carnival have been cancelled.

I'll say it right now, this is fucked. Going to be a major problem for the world in 2020. Specifically the Far East.

Not an epidemiologist or anything but growth is going to be exponential for a little bit I think based on the data we've seen so far.

Would love to be dead ass wrong.

Yeah, right there with you. I'm no alarmist but this shit looks like the real deal. Global markets will be in turmoil this week. Buckle up

I'm ready to lock down the house and my family for up to 4 months if it spreads to my area.

Not sure it will spread to US in a major way, we'll see. But China clearly fucked this up because they didn't want the severity of the situation to get out since that would hurt economic growth. Not to get too conspiratorial here but my guess is the bureaucrats at the WTO were probably told to keep their concerns to a minimum until "more was known" as well.

This is going to hit supply chains, travel, consumer spending pretty hard.

Sheriff Joe and I got so much gold we gonna call it the pandemic of prosperity (trademarked) but hopefully it isn't too disruptive.

That makes a lot of sense.. thinking of canceling out my Madness trip too..
My daughter says I'm overreacting. I said maybe so but I've got enough problems as it is.

No sense in pushing the envelope. Maybe Trump is right and the April heat will kill it. Although I hardly think he's an expert.

It is approximately 3x more contagious than the flu based on early #'s (small sample) and the issue is that people can have it and the symptoms aren't showing up until well after they've spread it.

It has probably been in Italy for a few weeks but just now are cases popping up.

Another issue is that a lot of the countries that it is spreading in are ill-equipped to handle a pandemic where 5-10% of infected people need ICU/ER access, like the Middle East or Northern Africa. Think of all the congestion in China on a daily basis, when can that get back up and running to full economic capacity? Who knows.

I dunno, seems fucked, that's my uninformed and uncredentialed medical opinion.

Fears are growing that it won't be possible to stop the global spread of Coronavirus. Health experts have warned that the chances of containing it are diminishing as cases appear in more countries. Most infections are still in China, but significant clusters in South Korea, Iran and Italy causing concern. BBC News at Ten is presented by Huw Edwards with contributions from correspondents Mark Lowen in northern Italy, Laura Bicker in South Korea and John Sudworth in China with analysis from the BBC’s Medical Correspondent Fergus Walsh and the Economics Editor Faisal Islam.

Right now there are dozens and dozens of infected people walking around infecting other people, visiting shops and restaurants, touching their faces, then touching handles, faucets, items, silverware, etc. They don't know they have it and might not even start showing signs for two weeks. Until then, they're unaware they're passing it around. There are dozens more infected people right now flying on airplanes where they're likely infecting the entire planeload of people, flying in and out of countries, then they all disperse upon landing. Only a matter of time before it spreads like wildfire in our big cities. It's looking increasingly likely this a lab strain and not from 'bat soup', too.

Obviously China can do a lot more to shutdown cities and quarantine than the US can. If it hits here hard, it is going to be a brutal process.

First reported cases in Switzerland, Austria and Croatia today.

I thought I was gonna die from the flu several months ago. I could barely breathe and felt like my lungs were full of fluid. Didnt go to a doctor and got over it in a few days. There is too much hysteria over this shit.

Dems are using this virus against Trump.. Since everything backfires on them with Trump , i think the virus fades pretty soon.
