Houston statistically has been the best team in the XFL by a wide margin, ranking first in yards per play on offense and defense, among several other stats. Dallas has hit its stride with two excellent offensive performances on the road over the last two weeks with Landry Jones at QB, so this should be a close battle. Why lean toward the Roughnecks? They're nearly unstoppable in the red zone, converting nine of their 11 trips into TDs, and they are much better on point-after tries, scoring 0.92 points per attempt compared to 0.17 for Dallas. That matters in a close matchup.

The Defenders finally were upended last week, but that was on a tough cross-country trip against a Los Angeles Wildcats team that was better than its 0-2 record indicated. I don't have the same confidence in the Vipers to give DC the same trouble on a shorter road trip. Tampa Bay's defense was completely exposed in its home opener last week, having trouble slowing down Houston in both the passing and running game. The Vipers' offense showed up in that game, and if they can play at that level again, this should be a close game that the Defenders still can win. If Tampa Bay's offense isn't at its best, this could be another ugly one.

This game has the earmarks of a blowout. Virginia Tech is struggling mightily. The Hokies are overly reliant on the three ball and have been having all kinds of trouble generating offense. Virginia Tech also off a big effort against rival Virginia where they looked like they might get the upset but came up just short. Louisville off a really bad second half collapse against Florida State, so expecting a motivated team here. It's also the final home game for four senior starters. That's the type of team profile I like on Senior Days. I think this one is lopsided and I'm giving the points with Louisville.
