Faking Injuries

The NCAA is discussing way to stop teams from having players intentionally
faking injuries. Defensive players faking injuries, especially against fast
pace teams, is a problem for college football, but no one can agree on what
to do about it. The rules committee has discussed adding punitive measures
to injury fakers. Some of the fake injuries are down right laughable.

Any ideas on how to stop the Hollywood BS?

Make a kid sit out the next 10 defensive plays. Wouldnt that be a good way to "protect their safety"??

Always funny to hear the hometown fans boo when a player lays down and fakes an injury. Even funnier when the tv camera shows a closeup of the player on the ground and he's just laughing

Make the defensive coordinator sit out a half.
You don't think that would stop it.

Maybe extreme, but something needs to be done that has some teeth.

In the interest of preventing injuries from exhaustion require that offenses cannot snap the ball with more than 15 seconds on play clock. PROBLEM SOLVED.

I don't think there's any way to stop it. They harp on "safety" concerns (tossing kids for making routing tackles in the name of "targeting"). So how do you justify calling a "fake" injury. Also, most of these kids are told to stay on the field if/when they get hurt, no matter the severity of the injury.

I agree w/ Knight - make them sit out, maybe at least through the end of the series (change of possession)? Other than that, I'm not sure there's much you can do about it.

That is a good idea that they have to sit a few plays. 10 may be too many.

The reason i brought up 10 plays is that players rotate snaps anyway (they play 5 plays, sit our 2 or something like that) and figure when a player is on the last play of his rotation, then they fake injury as they were going to sit anyway.

Thats why i said 10 plays. Or maybe make that player sit out the rest of the opposing team's drive PLUS the next drive (remember, safety first, right???)

Another rule could be that the ball cannot be snapped with over 15 seconds in the play clock for x number of consecutive plays.

I am a big fan of fast paced football. I'll put my homer hat on for a sec and i know it gives my team a MAJOR advantage when they play fast in 90 degree weather
