Hard times for NCAA Division 1 schools as they have taken a huge financial hit. Losing
the college basketball tournament was costly and schools are asking for help. The AAC,
MWC, MAC, SB and CUSA commissioners are asking the NCAA for relief. NCAA rules
require Division 1 schools to sponsor at least 16 sports, schools are asking for flexibility
with this rule as well as others. Cincinnati has just dropped its men's soccer program, Old
Dominion has cut its wrestling team. It's only the beginning folks...…...

In Michigan the MAC schools really subsidize their athletic budgets. Looking at the cost per student rate Eastern Michigan subsidizes at a rate of $1219 per student, Western Mich is at $1080 and Central Mich at $722 per student.
Big Ten schools have it much easier with MSU at $14 per student and UM at $6 per student.
This is from a 2014 report, most recent I can find. Am sure those costs have gone up.
And this when things are normal!!!

The ten commissioners of the nation's major college football conferences held a 30-minute
conference call yesterday with VP Mike Pence and stressed that college sports cannot return
from the virus shutdown until campuses have reopened.

I think they were discussing late May to see if campuses will open in the fall.

I hope they do.

I would HATE to be in college right now. If campuses were going to close, i would try to take a GAP year and do nothing for a year. College is 75% experience and 25% actually learning something

South Carolina said they want to make a decision by May 15, but no later than June 15.

Not to get to political, this whole thing is non-sense. The second they "open" things back up I'll be right there. I can't believe so many people are willing to live in fear like this.

HA! You should be in Michigan! You can go fishing with only immediate family members in a boat with no motor. Friends with you, NO, motor, NO. Now what sense does that make. To add to that only perch or Great Lakes trout fishing is open until May 15th when Walleye season opens and it's still colder than shit up here, so no pleasure boaters or water skiers. Their reasoning comes from one Northern town who complained that fishermen from southern counties, where the virus is heavy, were filling up their boat launches.

Today I'm going to a big Box Store for home improvement items. Required to wear mask (ok with that) Social distancing?, no problem, washing hands?, ah, yeah, always have. I can buy lumber, pipes, plywood, tools, bricks, whatever, BUT, garden center area has to be closed, paint area has to be closed, flooring area has to be closed. I'm NOT seeing the logic here?????
Several County Sheriffs from rural areas have publicly stated they are not going to enforce most of these rules. They are getting calls that "this house has several cars in the driveway" or that "these folks don't belong here", etc. They stated they are not banging on doors to see who is visiting. CRAZY TIMES!

Will say this; This virus is FOR REAL, very nasty, needs to be contained. THE WHOLE PROBLEM is LACK OF TESTING, PERIOD. FIND IT, LOCK IT DOWN. Just not happening. WHY???
And another thing; WASH YOUR DAMN HANDS!! So many folks just don't do this.

I'm done ranting, back to college football...…………..whenever that happens.

Here in north Alabama, some things are closed like barber shops (I need a haircut) but other stores
like Home Depot and Lowes are booming. I went to Lowes yesterday and could barely find a parking
spot. Some places are closed and others are open...if one wants to go fishing, he can go.

The box store is called Menards, a Wisconsin based home improvement store same as Home Depot or Lowes. They had very few customers today when I was there. Paint area, flooring area, and garden center all roped off.
Scientists are finding that the virus does not last long in sunlight and/or high humidity. Ultraviolet sun rays kill it. Sounds like your in a better place (Northern Bama) than I. They are believing that is why countries like Pakistan and India have so many fewer cases.

So let's have everyone walk through a tanning booth while entering stores!

Maybe that's why Trump never got it. That orange face of his must be in a tanning booth several times a week!!!

Don't get me started on that lunatic governor in Michigan! I live in Virginia, home of the racist Governor Blackface Northam - the one who wore a KKK outfit and blackface in his college yearbook...and got a free pass for it. So I feel you!

I'm retiring from the military on June 13th and have a big retirement ceremony planned. I'm going to be super pissed off if this bullsh*t causes it to get cancelled! We need to get on with our lives and stop the fear mongering!

How many years do you have in Coach? One of my best friends when I lived in the Atlanta area had 25 years military
service. He drew a nice little pension and really enjoyed himself. He and I spent a lot of time playing golf and boating
on lake Lanier. Great guy and I miss him as he passed away a few years ago.

Congratulations with your service and hope you get your retirement ceremony.

the virus is real.. my next door neighbor had it and was in hospital for 11 days..ventilator for 4 of those.. he has been home a little over a week and 2 straight days has tested negative.. he is 61.. he came back from New york with it.
At same time... i am 48 with a wife and 3 kids.. 14-12-7.. my 14 year old has been going fishing at a pond in our neighborhood a little over the last 2 weeks and this week we started letting him go more.. we have been social distancing and its driving me insane as a small business owner trying to keep busy.. This past weekend had 4 kids over for baseball practice in my backyard and we believe we will be playing baseball again in 2 -3 weeks.. our governor has press conference today at 11 in Alabama.. if this is a cold weather virus it wont stay in Alabama much longer.. will be 80s and up here in a few weeks for next 6 months.
our governor actually said when she put our stay at home in place if you want football in the fall stay home... its Alabama...we are all dumb enough to believe here and at that same time go out.

A friend of mine is just starting to get over it. But it was hell on him for the first 3 weeks. He's 57 and in good shape, but he said there was twice that he thought he would have to check himself into the hospital from being short of breath. It's now been a month and he's still having trouble breathing and can't even mow his yard. Something we're not hearing enough about is the possible long term affects of this virus if you should get it. It can permanently damage your lungs and other parts of your body. This is a very vicious and aggressive virus. My friend thinks he got it from his grandkids since they are basically all he has been around, and these young people are carriers. I hope everybody is right here and this virus goes away with the warmer weather. But right now we simply don't know enough about it. They'll have to take this one step at a time with these openings. My guess is the college season will start up again. But I'll be surprised if it's before next spring. It's just too dangerous right now. One or two cases of the virus can put a halt and shut down an entire football program. They really need testing before they can move forward with anything.

CL, I'll retire w/ 25 years - but I joined in 1989 and had a 5+ year break in service. Enlisted Navy after a year of college that didn't go real well, got out went back to college, became a professional firefighter and got back in the reserves. I was recalled in 2005 and have been on active duty since then. I started collecting my FD pension 4 years ago, so I'll be double dipping in this summer...plus I'll get a VA disability. Life should be pretty good...and I have a nice job lined up at the Treasury Department, I start in July. We're hoping to move back to Florida though so I'll start looking down there. Hoping this economy doesn't tank too bad (jobs and housing).

Thanks VegasKnows. Looking forward to it. I'll have to decide by mid-May if we're going to cancel the ceremony. I had a lot of people coming in for it. I can't complain too much w/ all the HS seniors, college kids and athletes, etc having their lives and special moments f*cked up. If it gets cancelled I'll probably just have a party in a few months when everything settles down.
