There is a simple concept that some of the donkeys in here are failing to grasp.

There is a death count associated with not opening up the economy.

So, how many people are you going to KILL and MURDER by not opening up the economy? People are committing suicide
(I know one last week that did just that), businesses that took a lifetime to build are being destroyed every day.

Here is an analogy for the retards in here:

When they set the speed limit for a road, they know that at a certain point, an increase in 5 MPH will cause an 8% increase in
deaths, an increase of 10 MPH will cause 17% increase in deaths, 15 MPH a 27% increase.

"The federal government’s 1995 decision to allow states to set speed limits higher than 65 mph caused almost 14,000 additional deaths over 25 years on interstates and freeways, according to a new study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety."

They raise the speed limits knowing it is going to fucking KILL PEOPLE. Why? Because there is a direct trade-off for society, and
the benefits outweigh those deaths.

So what is the policy prescription?

That is the question of the hour. But, we obviously have to look at both sides. The asinine things being posted in here (like Bengals thread today) about people not caring about the deaths associated with opening up the economy (and hoping people that want to open it up would get the virus) are so fucking ignorant.

With the safety of new cars the speed limit effect should be less

Not really the point though, the point is - some policy decisions have death counts on both sides. The one we are currently dealing with
certainly does.

If no states are willing to bite the bullet to open up then it is going to take longer. And obviously North Dakota or Wyoming don't really count for much.

Blame someone like Abbott for not stepping up.

How many more Chinese virus models do we need to shape policies ? Maybe time to take the other side into consideration

Yeah, lets blame 100% of this on the Democrats even though we have a Republican President and that Republicans control 2/3 of the government's brances.

NEXT

Um, Maybe if when this virus thing was breaking, if the fucking scum on the left (Pelosi, Schumer...) weren't crippling our Fed Gov. with a year long fake impeachment trial, we would have been in a better position to tackle this thing?

As Willie has mentioned often, the doomsayers are only interested in a monotone conversation. There are never shades of gray if you were to ask them.

This is all absolutely correct and a great analogy. The next question is, why is the government killing its own citizens. The obvious answer, is because this is what their voters wanted when they elected them, and by creating a deadly economic conditions, everyone is going to vote for them again in November.

Like most everything else in our country, the worst thing that has happened has been the federal government trying to help. Keeping the government tied up with things other than closing stuff down is a good thing.

Great point. Anyone talking about all the doom and gloom has no ability to understand the nuance of the situation.
