I have heard from from a former casino floorman in NJ that dealers are receiving around $1100 in weekly unemployment. This includes the $600 weekly CARES payment which workers get till the end of July. Would you want to return to work knowing that you will earn hundreds less from actually working. I don't know how all this works but it would seem to be if casinos reopen in June you would prefer to not be called back to work until August. One of the main factors is your wage income is taxable. I don't how much of the unemployment benefits or CARES benefit are. When the casinos reopen the toke rate will be way down due to lack of business and less people at the tables. The tips are pooled but the bottomline is you could see the toke rate drop 75% less than what they were before the shutdown.

I was talking to a bellman at the trop the other day and he’s really struggling right now . Unemployment In New Jersey is overloaded and a lot of people are getting errors With there unemployment claims when they put them in and are unable to get through to anybody to fix it . He’s going on 5/ 6 weeks now, the only thing that kept him going was that stimulus check. At some point he’ll get all these back weeks in one shot, but who knows when that’ll be

Businesses take advantage of every edge they can get, so good for these employees to be able to sit at home milking favorable unemployment benefits.

I'm sure the business owners will be crying about not having workers, but oh well.

Why return to work right now with the virus remaining a concern and being paid more money to sleep late and sit at home?

They’re not putting one over on some faceless corporation. They’re putting one over on the American taxpayer.

can't wait until the checks come 2 an end...no money for anyone...big problems then

That's why if you have the opportunity to go back to your job , you do it. After the unemployment runs out , your job might not be there waiting for you.. All because of greed..

Have the the President and Congress who added a few trillion to the debt already this year do the explaining.

If they say no and dont come back, they would lose their benefits, no?
If the company reports them, right?

Who knows what the job market will be like in the future

Most adults beyond college aged working at or slightly above minimum wage jobs likely are life losers and lousy planners. Don't expect them to become planners now, especially with the extra incentives to sit at home. They can wait at their local food bank if they're jobless after the unemployment money expires.

Donald Trump has spent money like a madman and unfortunately most Republicans are like this now, so the country and economy are completely fucked. You guys posting here thinking that everything is going to return to normal soon after these restrictions are lifted are fooling yourselves.

Trump likely is dumb enough to fall into line with what Democrats have always wanted. Universal Basic Income. A dream come true for the minimum wage lifers and a nightmare for most of the rest of us.

well considering no one in unemployment office working who are employers going to get in touch with saying there employees are refusing work so deny benefits. Our country is set up so the blind lead the blind. Integrity is an old wives tale . Fuck you and hooray for me is the American motto. Just the thought of staying home and receiving more then going to work is beyond fucked up. Being spoon fed that your government is going to take care of you is ridiculous. I guess if your young and weak minded then this goes hand in hand with getting played to pay video games . Truly sad times

That's the biggest problem with the $ 600 supplemental benefit

Just off the wall stuff, and there's a lot of other off the wall stuff

The bill(s) are all rushed, politicians want to prove how much they love us, and the bureaucrats prove once again how disconnected from reality and common sense they are

$600 is more than a lot of people even make, especially part-timers

So is New Jersey completely closed down? I only ask as typically you need to look for a job to qualify for continuous unemployment in many states. You would typically get the initial claim for a limited length of time but after that, you normally have to show that you applied for a job to continue to get unemployment. There's not much out there but there are some employers hiring.

Benefits can be denied if a claimant:2

  • Is not able to work or is not available for work. You must be able, ready, and willing to accept a suitable job.
  • Refuses an offer of suitable work.

Each state has its own guidelines, but, in general, "suitable work" means a job that offers wages comparable to what you have received in the past and whose duties are in line with your level of education and previous work experience.
