People are sick of being shamed for going outside during coronavirus lockdown

It’s the quarantine walk of shame.

People looking to beat the coronavirus lockdown blues with a bit of fresh air and exercise say they’re instead being pelted with tongue lashings and sinister stares by social-distancing diehards.

And while most folks stepping outdoors are actually adhering to proper pandemic protocols — such as maintaining 6 feet of personal space, wearing masks and washing their hands frequently — some say they’re still getting chewed out.

Midtown resident Sarah Javed was with her husband and two kids, ages 3 and 1, drawing with chalk in an empty parking lot when she was accosted by a complete stranger.

“A lady across the street yelled at us for being outdoors and threatened to call the cops,” Javed, 30, told The Post. “We said ‘do it,’ [but] they never came, so I assume they ignored her.”

The social-distancing shamer was yelling at the family for not wearing masks, despite the fact that “nobody was within 100 yards of us,” Javed said.

On April 17, Governor Andrew Cuomo issued a issued a mandate requiring everyone over 2-years-old to wear masks in public when social distancing can’t be maintained. So to Javed, she and her family weren’t putting anyone at risk, she said.

Joggers and bikers are another target for the outdoor whistleblowers.

“As a runner I…sense disapproval from some with whom I share the trail,” said Jill Gaebler. “I want everyone to feel comfortable when enjoying the outdoors, but also believe we need to have more grace and understanding with each other during this crisis.”

But some critics want runners to be less lax about their workout get-ups — even when it comes to famous actors.

“We were parked at a light, and I saw this muscular chest, really sweaty, jogger running across the street with his bandana mask on, and I thought, ‘Wow, that’s a pretty hard flex during a quarantine pandemic,’ ” said Ivette Soler, of Los Angeles, who believes the man was Colin Farrell, or at least his look-alike. “Then when he started crossing our street, he whipped off his bandana, and I saw his handsome face.”

His seemingly star status didn’t phase her. She later shared the incident on Facebook.

“Despite all the sexy that was before me, I met his piercing gaze with the most withering look of mask shaming I could muster,” she wrote.

Others say the criticism largely lives online where people flock to vent their opinions.

“In my personal experience, the fiercest shaming happens on here,” said Christoph Schilling over Twitter.

One Twitter user urged urged their followers to stay home Wednesday.

“I am BEGGING ya’ll to please stop going outside so I can shake my ass in the club to this remix. I NEED y’all to do this ONE thing,” they wrote.

It’s no surprise the confusion surrounding safety has emerged as public health information continues to be updated and changed.

But despite the need for sheltering in place to flatten the curve of the coronavirus, the New York State Department of Health actually states that it’s healthy and encouraged to head outside, as long as social-distancing measures are taken.

“Getting outdoors to walk, jog, hike, garden, ride a bicycle or visit a park are healthy ways to stay active, spend time with your family, and reduce stress and anxiety while engaging in social-distancing strategies,” the site states.

Even officials like Mayor Bill de Blasio goes to “get my exercise like everyone else,” he said on NY1’s “Inside City Hall” of his runs at Brooklyn’s Prospect Park.

People should maintain 6 feet of distance (that means no games!), avoid playground equipment and bike sharing; refrain from touching your eyes, nose and mouth and always wash hands for at least 20 seconds immediately after coming back inside.

I had a small local market employee ranting about how no one is staying at him and it’s ridiculous.

And this is a family business and she’s a daughter to the owner. She should be thankful people are coming there instead of the big super market chains.

She was very adamant and mean in her delivery. I haven’t been back, nor will I.

Should be interesting when Texas re-opens tomorrow. I find the crowd on NextDoor comical at this point. People writing down license plates and making notes of how many times their neighbors go out. Others insisting everyone wear masks and stay home (even though prior to the re-opening tomorrow it was well within anyone's rights to go outside anytime they felt like it and get a walk in, run an errand, etc.). And everyone was being quite good about distancing. Costco is not letting up and as of May 4th, everyone must wear a mask to go in their stores (I'm guessing I'll be canceling my membership). Whole Foods is doing it also but at least they will supply the masks for their customers (Costco is not). I figure it's their business. If they can afford to lose the revenue, congrats to them for being so profitable. Starting tomorrow, the next 5 days will be over 90 degrees and we get out first 100 degree day on Tuesday. I'll be curious to see how many continue to wear their masks (I'm thinking quite a few will be shedding their masks).

We have 60 degree weather here in Pa for the next 10 days, so I don't see people getting antsy wearing masks in stores.......but if it gets in the 80's & 90's in June & July, then I wanna see how many keep wearing masks.

It's hard for some people to breathe with masks on, I can't imagine having them on when it's blazing hot out.

I'm from Tennessee , I can't relate to any of that...

I live in a county with 40,000 people.. We have had 13 confirmed cases and 0 deaths... Its been very little in the way of restrictions here.. Even our dine in restaurants are back open.

No one here cares if you wear a mask or not.. I'd say 10% wear them, maybe..

Suppose we have been blessed...

That next door must be AWESOME to read with the unintentional comedy!!

I actually feel better if people wore masks at the stores. Just my opinion. I know many stores (where i live at least) REQUIRE a mask to be worn.

Its warm here as well and i cant breathe well when wearing a mask. When I am outside talking long walks, i'm actually more scared to wear a mask b/c of breathing purposes

I have done a lot of research on virus and how it spreads the last few weeks. From all that I have read and seen being outside a mask is not needed
due to the sun, air and wind. The odds of passing a virus outside is pretty much nil from everything I have read.

Mayors in MA are making it mandatory to wear a mask outside at all times and in many places they are going to try and give you a ticket/fine for not wearing it
Good luck with that! Talking with my friends who are cops told me how to handle if not wearing a mask when outside somewhere that says you need one.
If they ask for your name or id you do not have to give it to them, they can only ask for that if they are pulling you over driving. So just say no, and wish the officer a good day and walk away. It is a civil thing since they are giving a ticket, if they somehow arrest you then you will have one hell of a law suit against them and the city.

It is getting ridiculous with these communist/facist mayors in MA Lots of people are sick of them and I think there will be lots of civil disobedience at some point soon here.

Speaking of going outside, I've gotten a half dozen calls or so from my friends and family that live in R.I. The Dem Governor, a few hours ago, announced that she is already cancelling every summer event in that state which would attract more than 50 people and no weddings, gatherings or whatever can be held that will involve more than 50 people. So basically, she is flushing the 5.7 Billion dollar tourist season down the drain. The residents of RI are so F'ing pissed that she's doing this 2/3 months in advance without even a care of the economic burden and probably collapse of the State economy. Newport and Block Island will be crushed, as will all the beach communities in the State. These power hungry Democrat Governors are insane for the restrictions they are slapping on peoples freedoms. I feel bad for all the citizens who have a Democrat for a Governor, they are in for a rough ride.

This is nuts........summer starts June 21, that's 7 weeks away. Democratic govs seem to want to destroy their economies on purpose while trying to hurt the entire economy overall & have Trump lose in the Nov elections ......

The liberal left-wing media & politicians will be all out full force from now until Nov to destroy everything in their path.

I couldn't agree with you more CG, I never thought I'd see the day, when one party would recklessly destroy their own States economies and citizens' livelihood for a chance to steal an election!!!!

People are tired of the loud mouth minority with too much time on their hands constantly talking and constantly complaining and constantly demanding others give something up

Let them have the safe spaces they need, let them scream at the sky, let them have their circle jerks, just stay out of our way and don't dare get in our faces

About 30 miles north of Huntsville Alabama, just across the state line.

It's close to normal right now... Kids aren't playing baseball but everyone seems to be back to business as usual for the most part... I'm an essential, so I haven't missed a beat.

Despite the Useful Idiots on this site, I honestly think whatever chance the Democratic Party had to win the election is walking right out the door in front of them and they are just too self absorbed in their own stupidity. They switch their models and predictions as often as they change their underwear (and they are looking more and more foolish with each new one). They can't even figure out whether or not you should wear a mask. I think the WHO changed their guidance on it like a month ago. Even those that had a lean their way are now becoming increasingly skeptical the longer this thing goes on. I don't think a lot of people are going to buy into their 2nd tier of fear mongering as we get some additional people getting infected because people are focused on losing their businesses and overall net worth at this point (not to mention most aren't so dumb that they wouldn't expect an increase when people finally get to go back out...this isn't rocket science). And with this clown in Michigan and Comrade Newsom in California trying to impose their moral superiority, I think most independents are seriously questioning if they want a party in charge that are so quick to want to pull their individual freedoms from them.

But of course, they think they are winning and on the side of the public. face)(*^%
