Help me with betting strategies

Kind of new to horse betting and was wondering if some of the long time horse bettors could give me some of their betting strategies.
For instance do you just bet strictly WPS or do you bet the exotics as well or both combined. Are Exacta or Trifecta box bets or wheel bets the best.
Thanks for any info you could share.

It's a tough, but great Game. If starting out would recommend w/p. Personally only exotics I play are exactas. GL moving forward.

I bet win and place as well as exacta key boxes. I also really like playing the Doubles & Pick 3's. Pretty much stay away from trifectas unless it's a big race day with inflated pools. Just remember, you're in it for the enjoyment of losing your money. When I first started 30 years ago, my mentor only let me bet to win. If it was a 10 race card I would make 10 separate win bets, the size of the bet varying on how much confidence I had in each selection. It limited the beating I took while I was learning how to handicap.

The absolute best bet in horse racing is the win bet!
Exactas are next best.
Place bet only if your choice is 6-1 or more. The place bet is just there so you don't lose too much.
Never bet tri's or horizontal wagers like the pick whatever's they are fools gold.
Show bets are for the little old lady's out for the thrill of cashing a ticket.

What about the 3 or 4 horse exacta box?

Depends on the odds, so you don't bet a $2 ex box ($12) to win say $6. Makes no sense to me!

Just start with win bets. Exactas are also easy to play.

When you get more experience you can add tris/supers and P3/4/5 , but thats far down the road.

Couldn't disagree more with the idea that tris/supers and P3/4/5 are fools gold. My biggest scores are by far P4/5 tickets and supers. You just have to know how to structure those tickets.

Don't bet favorites, find horses that are logical and will get you paid.

Only bet to win and don't bet favorites. Favorites win 35% of the time. Yikes. FYI...2nd to fav wins 21% and third to fav wins 14%. Those are rolled up numbers as there is some variance depending on distance and surface.

Never bet into pools like Rainbow 6 where the pool goes if there is only 1 winning ticket. This bet is a tax on the stupid.
I only play that bet on Mandatory payout days.
