I was in the second or third grade - I heard the n-word in school - being a little kid I really had not clue what it meant - so, I came home from school and my dad was standing in the kitchen - i told him there was a bunch of N$ggers in school today - my dad did not say a work - he had a suit on - he slowly undid his belt and then he beat the fuck out of me with the belt - so I stopped using the n-word - I'm thinking if this black kids had a father like that things would be very different in their lives

Two strong and engaged parents makes a huge difference in your life, regardless of race. I think every educator who's working on the front lines can acknowledge that. Although they may disagree on how we got there.

I believe the long-term impact of LBJ's Great Society, "the war on poverty", put poverty on steroids.

It created the perception of easy street, something that obviously doesn't exist. It made things worse by rewarding people for having babies and then encouraged them to NOT get married. The fabric of the urban family has been destroyed in the last 55 years, a cycle of despair has been created.

Just brain dead bullshit, a great example of how government solutions backfire

Funny thing is Democrats want to fix those problems by doing the exact same thing, just more of it. More easy street

Until we do a 180, the cycle of despair will remain in tact. Kids will be born into dysfunctional families and more likely to live their entire lives in despair

Mine was different.... went to a mostly black school for a while. You better be able to fight or you are in for some problems. Better than being an attractive white girl though. The amount of times they get hit on and harassed is unreal. If they refuse to go out with a black guy it often ends with them telling everyone they are racist and they send the black chicks to harass and beat them up. Of course it is because they(girls) are racist and not just their opportunity to beat up some white girl. Yeah, right

I would take being black in a white neighborhood over white in a black one any day. May be some shitty white people but in general white people have been beaten down with the notion not to do anything to blacks or they are racist. Black people have not had that. They(not all)won't think for a second about it. Probably why you have such a disparity in violent attacks

My kids have said the N word a few times.

I ask them where they have heard it (wonder if friends say it as they have black kids in their class and who they play sports with).

They tell me that they hear it in Drake songs and stuff like that.

Its funny as many of my friends have told me that they're kids have done the same thing.

I hope you sat your kids down and explained why that word isn't correct for them to use.

A very very simple explanation is this...if as a child you were ever picked on for whatever reason, glasses, lowest reading group, big nose, whatever...you might have a group of friends that had the same in common with you and you used the words back to each other that people outside your group teased you constantly about.

This wasn't to degrade your friend, as it was used by the people outside the group, but to help take the sting out of those words when used by others.

From just current reading here, Tate called Willie99 "his favorite racist" that occurs a laugh while if Mob called him the same thing that would occur a much different reaction.

Couldn't disagree more, there will always be assholes, you can't legislate utopia

Teach you children to be good citizens, and prepare them for the assholes they're going to encounter. Life is going to have bumps, shielding them from reality is not the solution

The more I think about it, the worst that quote becomes

Shielding them from reality? What part of anything that i quoted or said had anything to do with that response?

The 60's were different, that's for sure
Ah the 60s. It was the time in my life that I went from being a juvenile delinquent
to being a man. Graduated high school with no clear plan of what I was going to do.

Then I got drafted.

Ended up in Nam. The platoon I was in had 35 swinging dicks. 30 of which were blacks
mostly from the South. They all called each other n!ggers and had no use for my white ass.

3rd day in we're out in the bush wondering around and I bump into 1 of them and you would
have thought I just killed his mom. I mean he went off on me like no one ever had.

Finally I'd had enough and said to him that my goal was to stay alive long to go home and
did he really want to looking over his shoulder for the next 12 months.
From that point on we were the best of buddies.

Once you realize the situation your in the color of someone's skin becomes irrelevant.
And it works both ways. There are lots and lots of assholes out there and they come in all
shapes and colors. The objective is to steer clear of as many of them as possible.
