If Holland re-signs Hossa instead of Franzen I could better stomach Holland getting in

'He is a kind, giving person, whether it’s to charities or to people. The first time I realized how interactive he was with people one-on-one was when he was talking to a fan one day and I needed a quick answer on something. He was locked in. When he talked to that person he made them feel special.”
Craig Conroy, Iginla’s longtime linemate and running mate, saw those interactions with a regularity he joked was annoying – especially when the team bus had to wait for him to sign every last autograph.
“It’s not like he did it once – he did it every day,” Conroy said when asked about that and the legendary story regarding Iginla’s efforts to find and pay for accommodations for fans he ran into at the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City.
“If he thought somebody needed a meal, he just bought it. It’s like, ‘Now I feel bad – I need to do more myself.’”
Conroy said Iginla would quietly buck up if the rookie dinners got a little too expensive, and was always the one to pay for rounds of beer or golf with the lads.
“That was his personality,” Conroy said. “My wife’s cousin passed away and he happened to be at our lake house in New York shortly after that and out of nowhere he pulled out his cheque book. Why he even had one was beyond me. But he put a cheque in their fund for the kids. That’s just Jarome.”

Joke of a HOF when compared to the other 4 major North American sports.

How are these numbers a first ballot HOF, never finished in the top five voting for a major award, never won a cup

And these numbers never even gets a mention!?!? Finished once in the top five voting for a major award. Never won a cup. Both played the same position. Both played in the same era.

I imagine 500 goals is a HOF benchmark.

perception always plays a part and hardcore hockey folks thought Turgeon was both a giant pussy and an underachiever whose claim to fame was getting whacked by Dale Hunter. But, i definitely see your point and his numbers dictate a HOF vote... and totally agree that if Alfredsson and Turgeon aren't in the HOF then Hossa can't be a first ballot guy.

I don't understand how Bondra is behind guys like Hossa as he was scoring 40-50 goals in the heavy defensive "left wing lock" era. IMO he was better than Hossa but is missing the cups and been snubbed for 10 years. Similar numbers in same era but adding physical domination is Keith Tkachuk...I believe Shanahan is the only other player with >500g, 500a, 2000pim and Shanny got in straight away

a stacked line is Mario with Jagr and Stevens or with Jagr and Francis...not with Sakic/Iginla ;)

i don't have a problem with Iginla as much as I do Hossa. but that might be the Pens fan in me....

The numbers I posted are not Iginla's numbers. The "first ballot" hall of famer never finished in the top five of any major individual award! Iginla is a deserving hall of famer. Should have won the Heart in 02. Lost a close vote to Theodore.

Bondra is the only player in NHL history to lead the league in goal scoring at least twice and not be in the hall of fame.
