New U.S. COVID-19 cases rose by nearly 50,000 on Wednesday, according to a Reuters tally, marking the biggest one-day spike since the start of the pandemic.

The record follows a warning by the government's top infectious diseases expert that the number could soon double to 100,000 cases a day if Americans do not come together to take steps necessary to halt the virus' resurgent spread, such as wearing masks when unable to practice social distancing. In the first week of June, the United States added about 22,000 new coronavirus cases each day. But as the month progressed, hotspots began to emerge across the Sun Belt. In the last seven days of June, daily new infections almost doubled to 42,000 nationally.Brazil is the only other country to report more than 50,000 new cases in one day. The United States reported at least 49,286 cases on Tuesday.More than half of new U.S. cases each day come from Arizona, California, Florida and Texas, home to 30% of the country's population. All four states plus 10 others saw new cases more than double in June.

Here's the real story...thanks for providing this Mango. Seven states DID NOT lock down. None of them is currently deep red. The guidance from the beginning...don't panic, stay open, protect the vulnerable and social distance/mask. Instead, the stupidity of America prevailed and the only herd followed was guided by incompetents. Waiting for Cuomo or the WHO to tell me what to do next.

Same B.S as usual. Take all the different type of test from the week shake well, stir, and keep stringing on into ever bigger numbers that and spread in a very liberal way all over everything.

U.S. sets record for new coronavirus cases, surpassing 55,000

The United States reported at least 55,220 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, surpassing Wednesday’s record of 52,789, previously the largest single-day total since the start of the pandemic, according to data collected by The Washington Post.

Florida on Thursday reported 10,109 new cases of covid-19, marking a new single-day record for the state, which reported 6,563 cases on Wednesday. There were 68 new deaths, for a total of 3,718. It’s the 25th consecutive day that Florida has set a record high in its seven-day rolling average. Georgia, one of the first states to loosen restrictions, joined Florida and several other states in setting single-day records of new cases. Georgia reported 3,472, up from 2,976 on Wednesday.

In Texas, Gov. Greg Abbott (R) on Thursday issued a statewide mandate requiring Texans to wear masks in public in any county with 20 or more positive covid-19 cases — a dramatic move that comes as cases in the state continue to climb. On Thursday, Texas reported 7,915 new cases of the coronavirus.

Non-sequitur. It'll take weeks to a month to know how many will die from these latest 50k+ daily cases. The deaths you're citing are from weeks ago when cases were in the teens.
