It will be interesting to see if there is a "domino effect" as the Ivy League becomes the first Division I conference to postpone football (until at least the spring of 2021). Many other college/university Presidents "look up" to the prestigious Ivy League (particularly Harvard) and possibly could be swayed by this decision. Stay tuned.

They look up to their academics. NOT their athletics

If the SEC shuts it down, then we will ALL take it seriously

Valid point. But other ominous signs loom as both Ohio State and North Carolina temporarily shut down football practices yesterday.

Many other programs have as well.

This reminds me of when we were young and parents wanted kids with chicken pox to hang out together so everyone can get it at once and be done with.

I think the return of MLB and NBA will set the tone for football season.

Now we have to wonder if we can have fans in the stands or not and how this will work?

An SEC team can field 75k packed like sardines. They dont care.

A team in California may allow 1 family every 5 rows. Who knows?

I expect more schools and conferences to follow suit in he next several weeks. There will be a lot of players who won’t suit up due to family medical concerns.

Leave it to the Ivy League to virtue signal the rest of us. Hopefully the rest of college sports will act like adults and realize that this China virus is a minimal risk to college age kids.

Just got a push notification that says "Big 10 moving to conference=only model for all sports this fall, including football"

I did not read the article, just saw the headline

It didn't take long for the first of the Power 5 conferences to make their move with the Big 10 canceling all non-conference games. There goes Ohio State / Oregon in week 2, Michigan/Washington and the big rivalry game between Iowa and Iowa St to name a few. Just a coincidence that this announcement came less than 24 hours after the Ivy League made the first move? I think not. But at least they are still planning on playing a full conference schedule (at this juncture).

Totally sucks. By the end of next week, college football season will be a skeleton of what is was supposed to be.

I think it's a pretty safe assumption that the next Power 5 conference to announce significant changes to its college football schedule will likely be the Pac-12. It's two largest states (California and Arizona) are currently Covid-19 hot spots. And many of the colleges and universities in this conference are state-run schools meaning the governors may have decision-making input as well.

If the season shuts down, i feel awful for high school recruits as less scholarship money will be offered to them.

Lets wait and see and hope for the best
