Not sure I buy that it's about altering the feeling of normal, I think it's about doing just enough to appease some people that you're doing "something" while still keeping some money rolling in. Not saying it's effective in practice, probably mostly window dressing. However I would guess that the average distance traveled within conference is far lower, despite the exception examples. Unless you're Bama, and force all your non-conference cupcakes to come to you.

Sweden - 523 deaths per million, if only we handled this better we could have had sports like Sweden is enjoying.
France - 444 deaths per million, although I guess I’ll say their sports also seem to mostly be shut down from what I’ve seen.
And shameful USA checking in at 389 deaths per million, despite the fact we have more minorities and more obese people who are more susceptible to this virus than those other countries.
but yeah, sure, our sports will be shut down based on “science” and “relative performance” to Europe.
