Athletics at Giants 8/15/20
The Oakland Athletics travel on the road to Oracle Park to take on the San Fransisco Giants. The Giants dropped a series against the Astros but were able to sneak away from a 7-6 extra innings winner in game 2. They lost 5-1 in the series finale and dropped to 8-12 on the year. The A’s got back to winning ways after a two-game losing streak against the Angels, the A’s won 8-4 and improved their record to an AL West best 13-6 on the season.
The A’s offense has stuttered to a start this season batting .216 on the season as a team ranking 26th in the MLB this season but still has managed to score 4.6 runs per game which sits them at 16th in the MLB. Star first baseman Matt Olson has similarly struggled to hit for average, batting just .149 on the year. But has still managed to produce with team-highs in home runs with 6 and RBIs with 14.
The A’s have not announced a starter yet. Even if they are forced to dig deep in the rotation to find a starter, the A’s pitching staff has been phenomenal this season. The A’s team ERA of 3.31 is the third-best ERA in baseball and a ton of guys healthy and ready to go 3-4 innings from the bullpen if necessary.
The Giants pitching staff has not shared the same success coming in with a team ERA of 5.10 ranking 23rd in the MLB. Getting the ball for the Giants will be Kevin Gausman who is 0-1 on the year, posting a 4.05 ERA in his three starts. Gausman has struck out 23 batters in just 20 innings and has walked just 2.
The Giants have been solid at the plate but it hasn’t necessarily generated runs, the Giants are batting .243 as a team but are averaging 4.25 runs per game. Mike Yastrzemski has been a big addition to the Giants in the last two seasons, he’s batting .314 and has driven in 12 runs in the first twenty games this season. In the infield, Donovan Solano is posting the second-best batting average in the MLB, batting .458 in his 16 games this year.
